Collaborating with Ann

I have been looking forward to this day, but also dreading it because I would have to finally decide what I like best about your artwork – not so easy, but here goes:

1.      Size:  I am going to say 22” because that will fit nicely in the space I am thinking of, but a little over or under is OK with me. I don’t mind paying more if you want to make it larger.
2.      Orientation:  My first thought is horizontal, but do not let that hold you back if your design would fit better in a vertical or square setting.

3.      Color Scheme:    I like contrast and  the colors you used in the recently posted Quintet are very striking.  The thing I like most about your hand dyed cottons and silks is the blending of one color into another, such as you used in

Dusk til Dawn,

Under A Silken Moon #3 and many others.Fibermania: Under a Silken Moon #3 Hand dyed cottons and silks, 17.5 x 12.75"
4.      Surface Treatments:        Definitely some fancy machine quilting and hand quilting if you want.  I thought the hand quilting in Quintet was very effective.  I love the dots that you have used on many pieces.
5.      Imagery:              I like the use of realistic objects (houses, trees, moon) more so than abstract, so I guess I would say Botanical as a choice.  This is not in the botanical category in your Galleries, but Under A Silken Moon #3 is a favorite.
6.      Fused or Pieced:               I would choose fused over pieced, but some piecing would be okay if that works for your design.  I hope you can work a little silk in as well as your beautiful cottons.

I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and we are surrounded by water and boats and we are on the flyway for Canada geese and other waterfowl.  The first time I clicked on Wintergreens in the Pine Tree Series, the main tree in that piece reminded me of a sailboat.
Pine Tree Series
These are just thoughts – I will not be disappointed if you do not go in this direction.  I know I will be pleased with the design and the final product.

Please take time to get settled in your new house.  I am amazed that you have made all of these decisions and acted upon them in such a short period of time.  I hope your current home sells quickly.  It should be very attractive to many buyers because you and Dave have made so many improvements.  The photo you recently posted of the house on the hill with the pond in front is very appealing.  Good luck and thank you.
I am pretty much spinning in all directions with this move, but like thinking about making a new piece as soon as the moving has settled down. We close on the 28th and my new studio floor will be laid on the 30th. Then the fabric, machines and furniture will be brought up, and I can see beginning this piece on the first of February, if all goes as planned.
Yesterday we left home early and drove three hours to Atlanta, for new beds at IKEA. Dave gets the black and I get the white.

to go with our chests of drawers. We love IKEA.

  1. I see you finally got a dog sized bed, lol!

  2. Hemnes is grand. We have a blue Hemnes chest of drawers, the long one, and I'd get more if we could fit them into the house! And yes, a dog sized bed! Yay!

Those look like nice big beds. Now you will have to make some bigger quilts to fit, won't you?

We love IKEA too - we have the blue chests of drawers in my cabin - the drawers are FULL of fabric and all the stuff that goes into quilting! And of course I need more space. Good luck with your move - very exciting :-)
