Make Me a Quilt : Donaleen

Queen of Orange
Hand dyed cottons and silks,
Fused, hand and machine quilted.
16.25 x15.5"

I am showing two photos of the same quilt, taken with two different lighting set ups. The first one is from my kitchen fluorescent overhead lights and the second is from my bathroom overhead CFL bulbs + three incandescents. Neither of these reflect the true color, and it frustrates me. The true color is so lush and vibrant and intense, and the blues here are almost blah. I can hardly stand waiting til my new color corrected ceiling lights are installed.
So....I lay the quilt flat on my table which is lit with four halogen bulbs and am now much happier with the color and reflectivity. Phew!
The center square is silk shantung and very reflective and the long strings are charmeuse and equally shiny.

I REALLY loved making this quilt, as it brought me back to my favorite 'stacks' designing, which allows me to use lots of different colors, surface effect-fabrics and silks. Yay!

you are amazing with the out put....... how about a break and some pictures of the yard - and any fall that may have arrived - oh, and the new floors - I am following that project closely as I have paws that would scratch any new flooring.... and the 30 year old carpet really really must go this year.... we have 73 degrees this morning with 92 percent humidity === not so sure we have gained anything???

  6. Mimi,
We are currently in a drought and the garden shows it. Horrible.
The floors are not even ordered yet, as the bathroom is first. Don't worry, it will all be here on the blog when it happens. I am not working that fast on quilts...one a week for this size is not fast at all, but a comfortable pace.

Your quilt photos are glorious islands of beauty. Each one is a small world of color, shape, light and movement. This week especially I have been looking at them, just living in the moment. Very Zen. Thank you for all the work you do and show on your site.
