Chalk Beach

Chalk Beach
acrylic, ink and graphite on paper, 9x12"

You just never know what you will see here, do you?
Me neither.
I was just going to paint a bunch of paper to use as collage fodder. I saw this in the stack and felt like I might play around with it, painting out areas, and emphasizing other areas. I gave myself a time limit, and used only pink, blue, yellow, and white, as a way of not overdoing it. It was already full of texture, as the base had been mixed with molding paste, and spread on with a palette knife. Learning from others (mostly found on my pinterest page) I found it necessary to block out busy areas with a more or less solid color. Then I added details to re-busy it up! I think drawing into the painting is my fave thing to do, and for that I used inks and a dip pen. A little scribble here and there with a thick soft drawing pencil, and ding! Time's up.

If I had a great copier ( I have a Canon 4500 now) I would make the details into prints as I have seen other artists do, on Etsy, for example.
I might seek out some fine art printing papers online and see what that would be like.

Or print these as note cards.

I am day dreaming...I know there are sources that will print these up for me, but you know, the original has all the texture and catches the light so much better than any reproduction.

  1. You always move so quickly from the "doing" to the "selling".

  2. It's wonderful! Worth going back to study again after I post this... haven't tried using pen and ink in eons, but I'm tempted! Keep going, I'm going to enjoy watching for future pieces!

  4. How about reproducing onto notecards? Sell in packs of ... 5? 10? 12? With a few different prints. I'd buy them!

Love what you're doing, here!!! I look forward to the progress and process each day.

Ok...I'm pathetic. I love everything that you do. I'm color-addicted, it's pretty clear. Keep it up and I agree with everybody else, but besides notecards I'd love to see prints or giclees. No?

  8. Even though you don't get the full experience without the texture, I think that people like to buy a small version of something that they particularly like. Prints and cards are a great idea. I am doing the same thing and have been happy with the results.
