Dave rigged up a flag holder and Old Glory has been flowing in the breeze just like it should. The bull rushes are standing at attention, while the frog chorus croaks out a hymn to mating season.
White Asiatic Lilies exploded recently and their perfume is a heady experience.
The deck planters are planted with a patriotic red white and blue...and green of course.
It's gangbusters in Hydrangea-land. All these colors on one bush. Amazing and to me, downright thrilling.
Ditch lilies may be a weed to some folks but when they grow up to meet my eye, I can't help but be impressed.
My fancy magenta Astilbe may be an acquired taste. To me they are lipsmacking gorgeous. It's great when a plant lives up to its nursery card hype. I've found the perfect combo for this morning-sun-only flower box. Bleeding hearts, astilbe and hosta. The ferns came here on their own and fill in the few empty spaces.
Gigantic Hosta blossoms about to open on very sturdt stems are an added bonus. I keep the flower stems on the plant through the winter so I don't inadvertently step on the budding plants in early Spring.
The smaller lily pads and lilies are spreading out in the northern corner of the pond. These flatter pads are the Frog Riviera most of the afternoon. The goldfish like to find shelter underneath too, when the water is too warm elsewhere.
I reknit my goof of the other day and tried it on before blocking. I am very happy with the fit and will take pictures when it dries, which could be very soon on this warm and dry day.
While I love to sit on the deck and knit, it has gotten a bit too warm, even under the shade of the umbrella, so I am back on the porch, where the breeze is steady and I have my feet up on the ottoman, a new knit already started. Iced tea and my tunes complete the heavenly day.

ReplyDeleteYour gardens are so beautiful. I whine about having to bend down to plant 7 teenie profusion zinnias. Really. But you've given me so mojo, and I'm going plant-shopping again tomorrow. BTW - I love the pink sweater-jacket. Love it. What would you charge - seriously -to make me one? We should chat.
