Reclaiming My Studio

What was I thinking by giving over my studio to the dogs? By doing that I was prevented from working in there, as every surface had something doggie on it. So last night I began to move out their stuff and put it all in the guest room.

But first the guest room had to be made doggie proof. Off the bed came the quilt and on went a flannel-backed plastic tablecloth and then a washable bedcover was tucked in all around. I removed my girly chair and rug (to the studio) and lay down puppy pads. We fed them in there and then closed the doors. They were not happy, so after several tries I sent Dave in to quell the furor. He ended up sleeping with them, all three on the guest bed.

I don't think this is going to work as smoothly as I had planned. But I have to have my space back. Really.

  1. You are so right. You're creations are so wonderful and a joy to everyone....you need to keep creating. The "boys" will be happy if you are happy. Hang in there.

  2. So glad you have your studio back. I recently found mine under a pile of rubble caused by a busy quilter who travels too much and has a stacking tendency. We're putting her into a spare room with food and a plastic tablecloth too.

This is why I crate trained my cocker spaniel girl! Now she sleeps in her house (tent like thing from Big Lots!) with the door wide open and everyone is happy! She gets snuggles on the bed before sleep, but off to the house for her when we are ready to sleep. I tell her "bed" toss in a treat and off to ozzz for her! :)

The crate training would be difficult especially for Chumley, (no, actually more difficult for you and Dave!) but dogs that are crate trained eventually consider their pen their private house, and willingly sleep there. If that doesn't work, do you have room for a big bed in one of the bedrooms? You HAVE to have your studio space!!!

  6. Good for you...although you seem to be quite creative wherever the dogs are.

  7. I'm am thoroughly convinced that every time we give out a piece of our creative space - a bit of our creativity goes with it. What I mean is that our lives are forever intruding on our creative playtime - we don't need to give more of it away. With that in mind, as soon as its fiscally possible, I'm going to be moving my sewing hole into an unused front parlor - which has big double french doors that - wait for it - SHUT! That way when life comes a knockin' I can decide if I'm going to let it in or not! Good for you for givin' the doggies the guestroom!

consider putting a baby gate on the door to the pup room. They can see out and won't complain as much about being separated.

  12. I'm told (by my some who did it) that if you persist - with earplugs if necessary, after two or three nights the dogs will work out you mean it and settle down . . . but you have to be strong!! Both of you!

    Good luck!

  13. Your studio looks great, everything tidy and in its place. I'm not sure I have it in me, but I'm going to try using your storage system as inspiration!
The boys are so cute! I have "boys" too, and they certainly keep me on my toes!
