Cold and Rainy

The lilies are already opening on the big pad colonies. Today I counted 8 on this one (only 6 at the time I shot the photo) and the pad behind it has four pink/white ones.  It's just the beginning of the season, so I expect we will have very little visible water by summer's end. O well. The fish need the shade.
It's really not nice outside today and the Dawg beat me inside after dawn walkies. The rain is great, and I am not complaining, but there is a bittersweet feeling as the planting is finished (too soon) and I have to find something else to do, inside.
Meaning: clean up my messy studio and bring out the fabric again. Once I start that I will 'get over it' I am sure. I have ideas.

But I will miss digging into that lovely soil and planting something tiny and full of hope. Yesterday after Dave's baseball game we stopped at a big fancy nursery and saw some cantaloupe colored ceramic flower pots. We almost made a purchase except the place was so overpriced on everything that one felt cheated instantly. Funny thing Dave said about the pot, "What would we plant in it?" Like that was a huge dilemma. In two seconds we found Gazanias that were the exact same color and some New Guinea Impatiens that matched too. Hmm. I may succumb when I am back in town.

I am on the edge of envious about your garden/outdoor space, especially now that I know you have pond lillies; and envy is not good for my spirit. So though I'm sorry you're reluctant to go back in, I'm glad for myself.

I'm sure you can find a seed to sprout in hope inside, as well. :)

  4. Garden-wise, you know what comes next. Weeding! Even so, it's fun to see how everything is progressing. Your yard is amazing!

  6. Love water lillies.

Don't know if you have a Home Goods store that is close to you. I was at the one in Vero Beach over the weekend and they had some of the most beautiful glazed clay post I have ever seen. The prices were half the price of the best price nusery in the area.

Your deck is beautiful and the tiers of planting look great.

  7. No rain here yet but chilly.

What type of camera do you use and is it "purse" sized?

  8. I vote for succumbing to the lure of that pricey cantaloupe planter! Sometimes it's worth a splurge for a really special pot. Put some chartreuse coleus or sweet potato vine with those gazanias & impatiens, set it somewhere you'll see it often, and it'll make you smile from now till frost.
