What's Going On?

I don't know happened, but suddenly my quilts are selling like hot dogs.
As you know I have been moving in the other direction, trying to figure out what's next and to quote Al Pacino in Godfather III
"just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in".

What happened is that I have not been diligent in putting SOLD on some quilts and when the perspective buyer saw one online, she wanted it, and so I sold it...again. This is not smart.
When this was discovered, I was put in the position of agreeing to remake a quilt that is already sold.
You know what that means. Shifting my head back into quilting mode.
I can do it. But still...what does this mean, all the sudden interest in buying when it has been so flat for so long? Is the economy really picking up despite all the negative reports? Whatever it is, I am grateful to have the encouragement.

This is the quilt, Tangerine Trail, which I sold twice and will now attempt to remake. If you are the original owner, I guarantee that I will not be able to copy this exactly, but will attempt to make something with nearly the same colors and nearly the same idea. I hope.

PS. There really is very little chance that I will run out of quilts anytime soon. See this site for just a few of what I have available.

  1. I think when you announced that you were done with quilting, maybe everyone thought they better get one because there would be no more. I still hope there are more, because I love to see them.

  2. I was going to say pretty much the same thing as Lisa. Especially since you said you were done with teaching. Folks who have admired your work over the years want to get a piece before it's all gone.

The ressession is not over, money is still tight so we THINK about the "extras" we want. After over a year of saying no to myself about any new item, I finally said ok to two..... and no doubt others are saying ok some too.....

  4. I agree with Louisa and Lisa. People think that this may be their last chance to buy one of your unique quilts. Who knows, maybe you will eventually return to quilting, maybe in a totally different direction than anything you've made before, but still amazing.

  5. I sold a quilt twice. One of the buyers was a distant relative and I talked her into another piece. I can't make quilts twice.

  6. Mel, think maybe your recent classes have stimulated talk about you of the very best kind? People who took the class maybe introduced your name to a whole new group of people friends/guild buddies/shop owners who searched you out and have been looking at your marvelous work.

  10. Sometimes we think we know what we want and what we should be doing. Sometimes the universe or our guardian angel or divine intervention has to step in and give us a smack back into reality.

I didn't speak up when you said you were done quilting because I couldn't, in honesty, wish you well when I thought you had lost your mind. For over twenty years my job required me to travel and as we get older it becomes a drag so I can understand giving up teaching that required travel and extended time away from home.

You have a gift and I don't see how you take that gift and put it in a box and say it is over and I'm bored with it. People follow you and your blog and your work because you can do what we can't and you inspire us to at least try.

Maybe I am just selfish and want to see more and more of your quilts but I also threw a fit when Coke decided to drop Coke in favor of the New Coke. Somethings shouldn't be messed with.

Congratulations on the sale of your art quilts.

  11. Hot dogs? or Hot cakes? When I read hot dogs I laughed and liked it much better than hot cakes.
I hope the economy is picking up. I just $300 on a needlepoint canvas. oy...

    Hi Melody
I have to agree with what "Minu" said. There are times in our lives where we ask ourselves what for, why..... I think you are a wonderful artist and I think with your quilts you have inspired so many people. I know that here in Switzerland so many gals read your blog every day and your one of a kind quilts.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and art with us.

  13. I would tend to agree with all of the above if you were planning on falling off the face of the earth or weren't such a great painter!!! Most of us must feel comfortable with whatever art form our creativity takes. Do whatever the hell you want. Just please continue to use this blog to figure out what you want so we can have some fun too.
