Scams and Sales

 image

Google is amazing. I looked up scams for art sales and actually found a site that described my experience almost perfectly. That made me feel pretty good, since I didn’t get hurt at all.

And because I posted those pictures of my work yesterday, a reader who I actually know decided to purchase two pieces from me!

One of them is Adobe, which it turns out I have named five paintings, and another quilt with that title. Duh!

And the second is Tangerine Trail.

So you can imagine that I am pretty happy.

Not to mention the delphiniums are so amazing. 1. That I can actually grow them. 2. That they are such a beautiful purple and blue at the same time. La Dee Dah

  1. Yay and good for you!!!! The quilts are gorgeous and I'm so glad you were able to research the whole scam thing! So disgusting but I guess it's the price we pay for getting to enjoy all the wonders of the internet!!

  2. WooHoo! Congrats! And yes, delphiniums are just the best - they're like Sabacron Blue!

  3. Congrats on the quilt sales. I have that same blue delph in my garden. It's my oldest (10+ years) and my fave. One year it grew double stalks (singles fused together): very weird but very strong!

I do love those delphiniums..so deep with color! Goes with the polka dot material in Adobe.

  5. I love the deep blue of your delphiniums. I don't think I have seen that flower before, and it's just a perfect color. Second only to the blue of Heavenly Blue morning glories - and I'll just mention that I would love to buy a quilt from you that features that favorite flower of mine...care to make one? :-)

It's not just artists who are getting these emails/calls. Lots of small businesses (I'm familiar with food and clothes markets) are receiving variations on the same idea.

Assume that any transaction that involves you being paid more so that you can pay for some third party is a scam.

  9. I don't think I had seen delphiniums before, either, although they are featured in a favorite childhood poem (A.A. Milne). Love that purple and blue together!

BTW: what a lovely complement to the orange quilts of yesterday/today.

Delphiniums are a personal favourite of mine, too. For those who have never heard of them, this dark blue is not the only colour/combo they come in. Lovely old-fashioned flowers. Thanks for the pictures, Melody! Might it be your woodsy surroundings that allow you to grow them "down south"?

The quilts are, of course, stunning. Congrats to the new owner!
