Because the horse it made from silk charmeuse, it changes color as you walk by. Dark and light and in between, depending on the light that hits it.

So why a horse? Well, altho I have been a confirmed cat person all my life, recently I have become hooked on the TV show the Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan. The transforming effect of this dog trainer on the 'bad doggie' is amazing to watch. And then they become adorable after he does his magic. (What about the horse?) We were watching this show and the dog owner was being interviewed and behind him I could see the living room furniture and on the shelf against the wall was a horse sculpture. I loved this design, very contemporary and appealing. So I tried sketching a horse, and exaggerated the legs and head and had my pattern. So then what to do with it?
I was looking at the Elements series done by artist Robin Ferrier and was so interested in her different color combinations in this lovely work. I decided to try and find some colors that I don't usually use, and collected them and fooled around with them for about 6 hours until finally I could cut into them. Isn't that the hardest part? Thanks Robin for the inspiration.

  1. I love this. The way you did the horse makes it almost look like a shadow horse. Really cool!

I love the Dog Whisperer. I think we all need to learn to be calm submissive!

Your horse reminds me of the little filly who lives down the road from us... she came out all legs!
What a great design, and I really love the colors you used!
