Coneflowers Sold
acrylic and ink on linen canvas board
10x8"
Our garden has three colors of coneflowers and the butterflies love all of them. But I cut three of the 'purple' ones and brought them into the house so I could study and paint them.
This illustration technique is so much fun to do. First I drew the image with pencil and paint that drawing with matte medium. Then I use liquid acrylic (Golden brand) in a watercolor technique. When dry I go over some of the lines with ink.

Boy oh boy, made and sold before I woke up this morning. Another beauty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! For those of us who miss the opportunity to buy,
ReplyDeleteI think a set of notecards in this style would be lovely. (hint, hint:)

Mel,I have been inspired by your quilts, and now your paintings, for many years. The vibrant clear colors and your fresh, UNDERWORKED, style makes my inner muse shout & sing, "that's it, she's got It". This new one today, and Awash in Pears are far and away my favorites, they seem literally to VIBRATE off the canvas!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I really like this one. So bright and cheerful and reminds me of summer.
ReplyDeleteI would like notecards of this and the pears! Shoot, shoot, shoot! You know I love coneflowers!!!
ReplyDeleteConeflowers is fantabulous! Notecards would be awesome. Way to go, Mel...
ReplyDeleteMs.Mel,
ReplyDeleteI agree with the rest of the comments, this coneflower painting and new style is the best look so far. The other paintings look much like a camera picture so perfect and beautiful however I couldn't really "SEE" you in them...but this style seems to scream Melody Johnson. Love it. I can't wait to see where this idea takes you. Good luck.
