A lovely Praying Mantis sits atop my calla lily leaf. He stayed all day and watched me as I shot him, turning his head when I moved.
A Walking Stick. We have seen lots of these.
The disgusting Tomato Hornworm and egg cases. Eeeeouuuwww. I cut the stem of the tomato plant and tossed them all to the fishes.

ReplyDeleteLOL! I laughed when I clicked on the praying mantis and he looked at me haughtily and said, "Are you looking at me?" I am jealous.. I have been looking for these all summer. Usually I can find one of these in my daylilies. And the walking stick!!! You can feed those other things to the fish! What fun.. these funny little bugs!

Hi Melody - Great photos! Love praying mantises, have had lots this summer. Don't think I've ever seen a walking stick before... sadly though I am all to familiar with the Hornworm. Ick.

Wow!! I haven't seen a praying mantis since I was a kid! I've only seen walking sticks in a zoo! That was a real treat, those two pictures, thanks1

Nice pictures. The mantis does look haughty and the eggs are indeed disgusting. I hope the fish liked them.
ReplyDeleteThe walking stick looks interesting, it looks like a female that has taken a male shape because of elevated temperatures. It must be very hot were your live.
We have walking sticks in a terrarium at the school of the children and when it was over 30°C, they also turned male.
By the way, I always thought they were called "stick insect" in englis, but now I see you call them walking sticks, which is the same as we call them (in dutch of course, "wandelende takken").
