Inventory: The Orchard

Hosui Asian Pear--- Gala Apple--Black Arkansas Apple--- Winter Banana Apple

Last Spring the Southeast experienced a late frost which killed all the buds on the fruit trees, and many of the decorative flower specimens too. This was followed by a drought, extremely high temperatures in the late summer, and then a Japanese beetle infestation.
Our trees lost most of their leaves, and were pretty dismal looking, so I didn't have much hope for their survival. But after a closer inspection yesterday, I was happy to see buds forming and not much in the way of dead wood.
So what kind of fruit trees do we have? Most of them had tags on them, and a few were unknown varieties, while others are familiar and still others are untagged, so they will have to fruit in order to be identified. Here's my list.
Apple: mostly dwarf, or semi-dwarf
2 Criterion, Sheepnose (?), Braeburn, Golden Delicious, 2 Yellow Delicious, 2 Gala , Granny Smith, Arkansas Black, Blushing Golden, Golden SuperSweet, Winter Banana, Red Delicious, Macintosh, Winesap.
Peach:
Diamond Pricess Super Sweet, Redhaven, J.H. Hale, 2 Belle of Georgia
Apricot:
Chinese
Pear:
Bartlett, Hosui, Moonglow, Red D'Anjou,
Cherry:
Lapin and 5 Nanking Bush
PawPaw:

  2. What a great orchard! I grow the Hosui pears, and they are excellent. Do you know about dormant oil? Right about now would probably be the ideal time to spray for you. It is environmentgally friendly, and it goes a long way to preventing insect and fungal damage later.

  4. Wanna trade some Winesaps for grapefruit and/or oranges, lol? As a original mid-westerner I miss my apples, but manage to get a big dose of Vitamin C from my new dig's citrus!

Our lemon had ONE lemon this year, the lonely remnant from last year's snow in TUCSON!
