A Day in Town

Stone Light Studio

We are getting the 'country folk' thinking down to a science. Dave had a doctor's appointment in Hixson where there are all the stores I need to visit. I had my coupon's and shopping list and would drop him off at the docs while I filled my need to shop. But before we got to town I had it in my mind to stop at the Stone Light Studio which is on the way in Soddy Daisy (really, that's the name of the town!).

I had heard great things about this shop and today (not yesterday when I showed up) they are having their Grand Re-Opening, so I figured I would get a preview. Dave was waiting in the car, so I had only minutes to snoop.
I figured I would just nose around anonymously and see what they had to offer. No such luck. I was there only two minutes before Dee Nash, the co-owner asked, "Are you Melody?"

We had a nice chat and she gave me the tour of the place. Just adorable! They have all the things we likey, including YARN. And plenty of great fabric, surface design supplies, and a huge, no, HUGE dyeroom. So much room for classes and so immaculate. My mind raced.

I volunteered for nothing. Kept my mouth shut. But really I have imagined all sorts of possibilities.

But I am retired...really I am. And loving the solitude. The routine of going into the studio and making something new and fun everyday...and getting dressed whenever.

But the call of a classroom, and the huge immaculate dyeroom and people of LIKE MINDS.

O dear.

  1. give yourself some more time to de-compress and then , when the time is right, you'll know it. Frankly, I can't imagine you completely retired anyway.

  2. Well done that woman! It's a great skill learning to keep those lips together.
I have this sentence I practise 'I'd love to do that but first I need to check my diaries at home' or if I'm at home 'I need to check with DH's diary'. It gives you time to think 'am I doing this just because I can or because I really really want to?'.

  4. I didn't teach again until a year and a half after I retired. It reminded me why I retired, schedule and all, but there were some fun moments. Have you thought of doing a "guest appearance" instead of a regular class?

  5. don't make any plans, just let it happen in it's time. You love the interaction... just pace yourself and allow yourself to be spontaneous...

It's a sign, but it doesn't have to be stressful.

  6. Sounds like a perfect once-in-a-while opportunity to me... but on your schedule and terms. ;0)

I say let it simmmer instead.

Give it the 3X rule - if it shoves itself in your face 3X (in whatever form) them it's something that needs to be considered, retirement or not!

  8. As you are already officially retired, you could come out of retirement for the occasional 'master class' - but only when it suited you.
Cheers - I'm loving your little quilts, especially the latest - although as I am in Canberra australia and its summer and all our pine trees got incinerated in a huge bush fire nearly four years ago, I see sailboats bobbing on an azure sea, with the hot, glaring Aussie sun behind - hey, I have an ideaa - come and give master classes down under!!

I think it would be the perfect balance for you....for the interaction with others, teaching your wonderful skills and no airports involved, plus Dave is not far away and to be honest, just how much quilt talk can Dave stand?!?

    Oh, Mrs. Mel -
    Give in! OH, give in!
I'm just looking for a reason to head south to Tennessee.
