Settling In

We decided to use that carpet which we don't like so much, since it is here, and works pretty well in the dining room part of the great room. We have practiced eating at a table after all these years sitting at the counters in our old kitchens. It's nice.

Furniture rearranging is one of our fave hobbies. Some people put down their furniture and it never moves. Not us. We like variety in our room settings.

The old stuff seems to fit just right in this half of the room. The area rug is BEIGE. You know I can't have that for long. But our list of future purchases seems to grow daily and what is really necessary must come first.

I haven't had the courage to set up the desk top computer yet, nor the strength to bring in the desk thingy that it will inhabit. I really don't like that piece of furniture, so avoidance reigns supreme. The laptop resides under the stairs and is working just fine for the moment.

When it comes to necessary, well, we have a wall unit gas heater in the living room and it is just butt ugly. Dave said it worked...once. But since I have watched him try to get it started, I have sent negative energies into the thing to prevent it from working. I don't want this thing in my living room.

I'd much rather have this nice little vent free gas stove. It has an on and off switch and that's the way I like it. Plus gas logs to watch. And it's RED.
The media room (the latest version of its name) is going to have this baby replacing the hideous and stinky wood burning stove. The new owner is going to pick up that old ugly thing today. Hurray!!
O, and about my studio...This is as far as I got yesterday. We went into Hixson, which is like returning to IL as far as shopping is concerned. I got these bed risers to raise my work table and now it becomes the central junk collecting spot.
When we got up (late today, chickens are chilly and won't crow more than 20 times, so that is easy to sleep through) I shot this picture from my loft.
How cozy and nice. It is starting to feel like home.

  1. I have been following your move and wanted to say I am happy for you and Dave. Your house and property is so beautiful and I know you will be so happy. I know you both have been super busy, but wondered if you had found a church yet?

  3. Ohhh - it's starting to look very homey!! Love the white fireplace - very retro! When I was growing up we had one just like it but it was bright orange and burned stinky wood. I thought we were the coolest in the neighborhood!

I got a kick out of Diane's comment. Such a Southern thing. When we moved to North Carolina, it was the first thing neighbors asked.

I love how your home is coming together with all of your wonderful things.

  5. It's looking cozy. There are many mornings and evenings in the fall and spring when just a bit of heat from a fireplace is all that's required to be comfortable. Then on those really cold days that do happen in Tennessee, the auxilary heat from those fireplaces will feel good as well as add to the ambiance of coziness.

  6. That red fireplace is just adorable. I'm glad you are settling in and finding places for your things. It's weird to see these stages, knowing the final look will be so much more complete, but it also makes me feel involved.

  8. We had one of those funky fireplaces like your white one in our cabin, and our homeowners insurance company told us that we better get rid of it or they'd drop us. We replaced it with a little ventless gas one similar to the red one (ours is a Jotul), and we love that thing...its great because it doesn't even need electriciyt to run,so it is is a handy backup inthe winter.

In the last photo of this post, there is an exquisite-looking quilt hanging over the back of one of the reddish-brown chairs. PLEASE could we have a closer look at it? Or can you direct me to where I can see a photo of it? I'm captivated... :)
