Whispers of Autumn

Can it be that the leaves are turning so soon? I thought in Tennessee that fall wouldn't arrive until late in October, but I am guessing that the intense heat at the end of August, combined with shortening days has caused these leaves to color.

There is still plenty of green at the end of our driveway, but some gold is creeping in too. The night temperatures are in the great sleeping range and I love being tucked under my quilt with only my nose sticking out.

The Hosta is in between the creeping junipers and because of the long day and night of rain we are glad we got them in when we did. We have seen deer but so far they have not come down from the mountain to eat them, and the existing plants appear untouched.

We are also pleased to announce that the wall is still standing after all that rain, and the pond is much higher than it was just days ago. The ducks are so funny, with their intermittent verbal announcements of "We're Still Here!" translated from Quack Quack Quack.

This morning I plan to move tables into the new studio and find those new small quilts that just need to be finished by machine. I hand stitched them in Switzerland and if I can add the backings now I can bring them with me to Jacksonville on Thursday.

Little by little things are getting done.
