These are two pictures of the same quilt. The lighting in my new studio is either overhead incandescent or slanting sunlight. I am used to color corrected flourescents, which offer some control of the color and shadows. And then I tried to use Photoshop to make them look more accurate and it turns out that I didn't download it on this desktop computer. Geesh.
So the top picture is slightly more accurate color, but the piece isn't really as wrinkled looking in person as it appears here.

I had hand quilted most of these when my Swiss students were working and only had to do the machine work when I returned to the states. Now I have finished these, and have my studio rearranged again and will start something new when I return from my next trip, tomorrow, to Jacksonville, Florida.
Excuse me if my head is spinning, but didn't I just get back from Switzerland, sell and move out of my Illinois house, and move into my Tennessee house only one week ago?
Geesh again.

ReplyDeleteChristine, the secret, which all my students know first thing, is to fuse the fabric using Wonder-Under, and then remove the paper BEFORE cutting the fabric.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course we only use hand dyed fabrics. No prints which are only one sided. Hand dyed fabric has color going all the way through.
my reaction to the first pieces was also -wow and that's unusual! had to come back out of lurkdom to say that it's great to see your new work and good luck with your new home...
