Let's Go Shopping

I had a list on my clipboard which I left in the shopping cart as we filled up the car with our goodies. Now I know meant to get butter and milk but came home with a new area rug for the living room which match our chairs. And also matching drapes of faux suede to block out our yard light.
This light is for the fire department so they can find our house (in case they can't see the flames, I guess) but it is like GHASTLY bright and we have to cover our windows every night in order to sleep in the dark. The window coverings are outside and of course I never remember to lower them until I am already in bed. Now I have room darkening curtains (well, I will have them when I get back and hem and hang them) and can just pull them closed indoors.

I am calling this color Merlot. Why not?

And O yes. Dave finally decided which tv he wanted, and then of course they were out of that one, so we had to go to another store and then he finally chose this one. I got a lot of shopping done while he was deciding. The table it sits on was much easier to choose. He has several more speakers, and components to set up but the tv already works great and I got to see all the facial details of my favorite Law and Order actors. The nice thing is that is in the back room (media room) and I can't hear the sound at all when I go to bed before Dave.

I'll have to deal with a few of these decor challenges when I get back...See you in Jacksonville!

Melody, your new place is really coming along! It is interesting to see how furniture can make a huge change in the energy of a room.

  2. Love that rug with everything else. I've been meaning to ask you where you got those cool chairs. Are they vintage or available somewhere?

  4. Merlot ... wonderful color ... and good name. You seem to be settling very nicely without a lot of hassle. Glad to see your studio at least in working order, even if it's not your best arrangement. I think we all know that to get to that point, it has to be worked in.

  5. I meant to ask you, what is a Nacre? guess I could google it. Love your beach grass piece, and I'm not usually drawn to pastels! Maybe it's the delicate lines.

  6. There, over the back of the chair is that gorgeously-coloured quilt again! When you get back and have a moment, could we get a closer look at it?
Hope I'm not being a peeping Thomasina ;)

  7. Melody-If you don't like that security light, my suggestion would be to call the electric company about removing it--it probably has a separate charge on your bill of about $5 per month. Why pay that for something you don't want ayway? We live in a similar rural area in Kentucky and prefer a light with a motion sensor because a security light would keep us from enjoying the stars, which definitely takes away from the whole living in the country experience. The motion sensor still allows you to see your way into the house from the garage after dark and then goes OFF. Sometimes a deer walking by might activate it, but we seem to be able to sleep through that. We're able to have no curtains on most of the windows in our house because we have no close neighbors--I love it like that. I've never heard that having a security light would help the fire department find your house--it's usually touted as a deterrent for burglars, but doesn't it just HELP them find their way around your property when it's so lit up?!
