The View from Signal Mountain
They call this a Scenic View. No kidding.
Lookout Mountain and the Tennessee River as seen from Signal Mountain
We spent the day today with Lois Killebrew, Ace Realtor and all around Kool Gal. She gave us the tour of Signal Mountain and we FELL IN LOVE, with her and the community. Weeks ago I found her website and began saving favorites. She noted my saved listings and emailed me for more info. I was eager to make my desires known and she replied that we ought to see Signal Mountain properties, as my descriptions seemed to match the area.
I forgot that I had emailed her and in the meantime also emailed a number of other realtors. She on the other hand, noted my name, viewed my website on her own, and remembered that I was an artist. Smart woman. This made her ready when we met.
It was her idea to make us fall in love with the area, and like a good yenta, her magic worked.
The gardens and the architecture of the town/mountain were so US. We toured several homes and I felt confident enough to voice my negative reactions. She responded to this as "helping her know what exactly would work for us". Sigh.
She told us that we were Signal Mountain People, and Dave said that now he knows what to put on his next tattoo.
While we didn't find the exact house of our dreams, we agree that we now know where the house will end up being. Lois is certain that she will find our house and that Signal Mountain needs us. Hmmm.
Then she took us to downtown Chattanooga. Yup. This is the place for us. Arty, cool, easy to navigate, and did I mention the fact that it has everything a gal like me needs?
Panera, TJMaxx, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, AC Moore, and only 1.5 hours to IKEA.
O and all the churches anyone could want!
Well, it must be a good sign to have such a positive experience right off the bang. The area looks lovely. I'll ask Terry about it as soon as he gets out of the shower. But no house pictures? Is that because none of them worked for you? And what's next? Oh well, I'm sure you'll answer these and many other questions in your next post. Have a ball!
ReplyDeleteHi Mel,
ReplyDeleteI had to look up Chattanooga on the map to see how close to NC it is. My daughter lives near Charlotte and has property near Asheville and they love it down there. Wanda H
Oh, I have goosebumps. I am so happy for you and amazed at the wonderful people God puts in our paths.
ReplyDeleteYOU have just put Signal Mountain on the map! I (like dozens of your readers) are itching to "google" it and join the adventure.
ReplyDeleteAnd sounds like you found a realtor that is quite the professional!

Check out www.city-data.com for an easy way to compare temps, humidity, sun, snowfall, crime, and everything else you can thing of...
ReplyDeleteSignal Mountain looks as if it's 1800 ft above sea level - that's a big plus. Should be livable in July/August.
Find a house surrounded with decidious trees. In the south, shade is your friend.
We visited Chatanooga several years ago and also enjoyed the town. Signal Mountain is wonderful. Hope the humidity on the mountain is better than in town! When we were there even the trees were dripping sweat! Good luck on finding the right place!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! So glad you made it to Chattanooga! Signal Mountain is a wonderful, secluded area and I have many friends that live there. I hope you will look at other homes in the area, too. The Signal Mountain area is a bit of a "clique." I hope that now that your agent has labeled you "Signal Mountain people" she will not consider showing you other, just as potentially wonderful, homes in other areas of Chattanooga. Labels can sometimes be limiting (IMHO). Here's another thought. I live in an apartment home community at the base of Signal Mountain (off Signal Mountain Road), called Windridge (423-265-7696). Many people relocating to the area rent an apartment there while looking for their home. It may be an option you want to look into. If you do, tell them that "Peggy sent you!" Please let me know if you have questions about the area. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy Jedi Mind Powers seem to be working. You would be about an hour from my dad, which means we would see you EVERY YEAR. (Which would be about the same as we see you now-ha ha!) Love, Em
ReplyDeleteYou have certainly picked a beautiful time of the year to see that area. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMel, I lived in Chattanooga for 25 years before we moved up here to Kentucky. I'll tell you that sales tax on everything is 9.25%, and that's food, too. Lots to see and do there, the Aquarium, IMAX, Creative Children's Discovery Museum, and an awesome coffee shop downtown called Greyfriers.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about Signal Mountain is that when it snows, (and it doesn't too often) or ices, Signal Mountain road closes first.
Just wanted to tell you what I knew. And in the fall, the views from the mountain are spectacular.
