I have disappeared
-
I am not making any art, I am not cooking, I am not even shopping, except online for houses. I sent my fabric on to my next venue, the Hudson Valley Art Quilt Workshops.
I am cleaning up every drip, every schnibble of paper, or lint, and sitting at the computer until my scrolling finger is stiff and blue.
I am unable to nail down even the town or state we will inhabit.
The pouring rain makes it so easy to just sit and do this endlessly...hot cuppa at my side.
I will return when I have something, anything to report.
Update!!
WE found a home that we agree on, and it is only 1 hour and 37 minutes from IKEA in Atlanta. Things are looking up. Now we just need a buyer for this house. I am not posting the house we found, 'cause you know me... I will change my mind by tomorrow.
But the IKEA thing is a necessity.

to add more towns to the search look in the land between the lakes area of Kentucky. You can get a flight out to anywhere by driving to Nashville. Just a thought.

Of course you can always come to Columbia, MO.

  2. Sounds like wonderful fun... one of my favorite pastimes. This is probably a silly question but have you Googled "Best places to retire" yet? Lots of ideas there!

Go back to looking in the mountains of North Carolina...Asheville, Boone, Blowing Rock. It's beautiful, rarely too hot in the summer, the people are great. You don't mind alittle snow in the winter...

You have to get in touch with
Georgia Bonesteel. She lives in NC. I think around Henderson, nc.
Has a beautiful (!!) house in the mountains....

Mel, you crack me up. Emily too.

Meg says winter in her area of NC (Leicester) is an event, not a season (this from a former Bostonian). If you get out of the immediate Asheville area the prices are much more reasonable. Atlanta is known as "Hotlanta" and it is NOT because of the nightlife. However, if you don't mind spending May-Oct. indoors or running from A/C in house to A/C in car to A/C in store, it is a pretty area.

I, OTOH, love winter so Chester, NS is ok by me even tho their winters have been pretty wimpy of late.....

IKEA, that would be AWESOME. But just to be within driving distance would make me happy.
There is no magic to selling your house, but being "in the business" I'll tell you that you are doing all the right things, keeping it clean, it's beautifully decorated and good price.
Visualize a buyer and it will come to you. I am a long-time firm believer that this WORKS.

Keep in mind that some realtors are better photographers than others... a good one can make a mediocre house look swell and a bad one can make a awesome house look awkward.

  8. I handed my realtor a cd of pictures of our garden in bloom and the house in the summer and they used those for the outside pictures, except on the opening page, which is current day---gray lawn. I may make them change that to my digital of the green stage.

  9. you know, Chicago may have bad winters, but the summers are nice, and if you don't count the tornados and blizzards, no natural disasters...
ok, well there is that big earthquake fault down at the bottom of the state...

Anyway, good luck with your search!

I thought you wanted woods, trees, walks and water? Didn't know you wanted IKEA?!? Otherwise I'd have said come live near me. They are 35-40mins the most away and I still have woods, water and lots of walk. Bicycle paths for hundreds of miles too from village to village, but there might be a language problem...lol.

How about New Mexico? Lot's of what you want (well maybe not trees) but great weather all year round and no humidity.

The mountains of NE Georgia will give you the same cool summers as near Asheville. (I lived in Johnson City, Tennessee for five years.) I now live in Chattanooga. The wonderful thing about Tennessee is that there is no state income tax, but I understand the NE GA mountains are a wonderful place to retire--as is Greeneville, TN (between Johnson City and Knoxville). Did you know the Appalachian region is the most biodiverse of any region in the world? And, it is considered semi-tropical!

  17. Oh---I just read your comments on the page about Chattanooga--I'm the one who recommended it to you. But I will tell you that it does get hot in the summer. The flip side is that pansies bloom all winter, and my outdoor hanging ferns last until January (from the previous summer). And the arts community is just beginning to blossom here! We could really use a quilt artist to spice things up a bit!
