Hotter than they make 'em!
=
The hottest I have ever been (from the weather that is) was in 2000 or 1 in Nashville. Laura and I were vending at the AQS show at the Opryland Hotel (altho we stayed in a cheapo motel across the street). In our motel room was a bag with moisture absorbing crystals, which were to help take out the humidity. It was full of water every day. Who knows if they ever changed it, but it was definitely not removing the humidity.
The parking lot was so hot I feared the soles of my shoes would melt before I got to the building. And inside the show, the air conditioner was on full blast so the shock could kill a weaker soul.
I am so thankful for the warnings that you readers have sent me about the summers in Tennessee. I have also lived in Florida and Mississippi during some pretty dern hot summers and lived to tell the tale. Not gonna suffer though that either.
I am seriously looking at the mountain areas and forests, so fear not, I will not fall into the fire of a too hot South. And the house must have a pool, hot tub or lake...not hard to find. I have a list of 23 already.
Oh, I love that barrel ceiling! Putting my two cents in: My in-laws lived in Brevard, NC. I loved it, as did they. Not as humid and hot due to the elevation. There was some snow and ice storms in winter. Taxes were low and three years ago when we sold their place the market was depressed. (3,000sq.ft. sold for $215,000 and was a gorgeous home.) It is near Hendersonville and the Parkway. It was about an hour from Ashville. I know where ever you decide, you will make it home. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteIf you can find a good trustworthy realtor in that area, we had ours go to things we thought worthy and take her own digital pictures. We did ALL of our shopping besides our initial trip on the net.
ReplyDeleteHow I knew we could trust her? The first time we sent her out, she came back and said, "NO, it smells of cat urine, lol".
Make sure you don't pick a dry county/town too - how horrible would that be - 95 degrees outside and can't have another frozen rita by the new pool because you have to drive 40 miles to get a bottle of booze/wine/beer.
ReplyDeleteTry the Knoxville area too. It is cooler there. Anything along the Smokies will be less hot and humid.

It gets hot as blue blazes here in Georgia. I'd much prefer to be closer to the ocean to get the breezes.
ReplyDeleteI betcha it was 2001. My first summer in the south. I thought I was going to burst into flames. It isn't always that bad... But still much worse than Illinois (that's where I'm from! in fact, my mom lives in Cary).
ReplyDeleteThink about how long it will take you to get to an airport.
ReplyDeleteWe are spoiled in the Chicago/Milwaukee area.
I have friends who have to leave a day ahead, stay in a motel and then fly the next day to get somewhere.
Just another thing to consider.
I cannot recommend the Asheville area high enough. I was a camp nurse there in the summer and my sister lives there now. Great medical care, cooler in summer, 4 pleasant seasons, some traffic but not as bad as here in so florida, and great natural beauty with people who care about it. Lots to do and lots of art. Lots of cheap great restaurants with local owners. Great wine shops.
ReplyDeleteGo and be peaceful. I think Dave will love it as we do .

So then Singapore should be a breeze for you. Actually, it never breaks 100 here. But I'm glad to hear you're looking in the mountains. Terry lived in or near that area and is thrilled. Hah.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering how you are coping not being able to make art at present.
