SewFree Style Quilts

There were 27 students in this class at Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest, and we had good luck with electricity, great lights in the room and just enough space for everyone to work. These are the challenges of teaching, the basic necessities are often missing. Not in this case.
The participants were expecting to work from a pattern or at least to see the sample they would be following, but NO... I pulled a fast one. I decided to do Small Works.
Since I had just figured this out, I decided to share the lessons I had learned, on them.
Most had never fused, designed on the spot or used hand dyed fabrics exclusively.
They did watch a Powerpoint presentation of the steps I took to make a small work, and then they were given the direction to choose two colors from their rainbow kit fabric, slice and dice it up and make a 12" quilt top. These are the results of their very first tries. All of these were done before 11:30 am when we stopped for lunch!
It was great to pin them up in a gallery row and see the variety and amazing designs they made.
In the afternoon we did a second work, their choice of color and size and those were even better. Finally by the 3pm hour we had time to do one 5 or 6" design.
It was the best class ever!

  4. Looks like a really fun class. I love how everyone's work turned out. I don't know if I'll ever get the opportunity to take a class from you, have you ever considered teaching this by writing a book or creating a DVD? I'd definitely get it!

well bugger, other people can obviously see images, but I get nothing ... when I view source, half the links are pointing to localhost (ie probably Melody's computer?) and some look like real links to images but pasting them into a browser window gets me nowhere, and some point to http://picasa.google.com/blogger/ which also gets me nowhere.

I don't get it - I saw the pictures yesterday, and today I can't. Same with the River series last week. Is it something with Blogger?
