Happy Again!

Finally, and not a second too soon for my sanity, the internet connection at home has been re-established. It turned out we were sent a faulty modem, which was swapped for a good one yesterday, when ATT sent a technician to our house. Now I suppose I have to say nice things about ATT. We are in the honeymoon period, so give it a month and if all is still well by then, I may report my satisfaction.
I had no idea how psychically disruptive being without an in home internet connection would make me. Since it coincided with the high stress of teaching at the Big Show, it doubled my angst.
I found myself falling asleep as soon as I got home from work.
I missed minutes of Grey's Anatomy and then last night lost several moments of Men in Trees. Is anyone else watching that show? O, I must report that Studio 60 has been picked up for a full season. Again, this makes for a happier Mel.


Still I managed to knit a second pair of sox this week, which prevented selected homicides, by a hair. What has happened to my patience? It has retired and is just waiting for me to follow suit.

Back to the quilt show. So far I taught two fusing classes which despite blowing circuits and having not nearly enough electrical sockets for all the irons involved, (so what else is new?) some folks with bad Wonder-Under (replaced by me with the new good stuff) and having to move out of the classroom and into the lobby to get power, we had a great two days. One must be flexible.

One participant, Chris Burton from the St. Louis area brought in something that she is working on, just to show me... I was THRILLED AND DELIGHTED and immediately wanted to make this quilt. It is so exotic to use non-quilt fabric like these, which include some heavy silks and decorator fabrics, along with batiks.


And the stitching is delightful to me. Love the unstuck parts!! The fabrics are layered and not fused. So? I think this adds a certain devil may care quality to the forms.


It takes something like this to capture my attention. The quilt show here is loaded with priceless works from around the globe, where artists obviously are spending a year or more per quilt. Ay ay ay! So when I see something like this sample of carefree fabric construction I breathe more freely and feel less kicked in the gut. That would be a good thing.
So today I am teaching two sessions of Really Free Motion Machine Quilting. I will do my best to be kind and patient. It is much easier now that I can freely blog.
O by the way, I was pleasantly surprised to get an email inviting me to enter my paintings in a local juried art show. I kid you not. O'course the invitation also included a mention of my quilts being enterable too, but I am more excited about the paintings being noticed.
I am considering making a second blog just for paint, so that I don't abuse the fact that this is supposed to be a quilting blog, despite all the knitting content, which is also supposed to appear more often since I am also in the Bohemian Knitter's ring.
Too many irons in the fire. eh?
