Our Big Adventure

He found this wonderful bicycle at a neighboorhood garage sale. I didn't know he was shopping or I would have helped him shop. We love garage sales. Our first dates were garage sale-ing.
Which means that I get his old new bike. This is a $mega priced bike. I am able to ride it now that he lowered the seat. I have very short legs.
We went for a ride and loved it. It was cool weather and he said,
"Let's ride again after dinner. "
We did.
And Dave fell because his foot got caught in the pedal basket. He fell right off a high curb, in a new street that had nothing but stones, no paving yet. He fell on the handle bar and hurt his ribs and shoulder.
But he insisted he was fine, so we rode for another two hours.
While we explored Cary we found a pond and walked around it and saw many tiny fish and heard a lot of frogs, and he began to crumple as he often does, from the PD. We waited for his foot to uncramp and people in the neighborhood saw us and came out to ask if we needed help.
Twice.
Our town has lots of nice people.
Eventually we made it back to the bikes and rode off to have a fire in the fireplace on the deck and some stiff Gimlets.
When he was relaxed he started having muscle spasms that got progressively more painful and he was groaning so badly that I said,
"I’m driving you to the emergency room." ( This was my only line that made it to the film. The rest is on the cutting room floor.)
Two hours and three x-rays later we came home. They gave him Valium and Darvocet (or something like that) and we had some ice cream and went to sleep. He woke up several times with the spasms and still isn’t any better.

Geesh.
He says "I feel like I should be shot."
So I am taking him to the vet and having him put down.
The End.
I hope your Prince Dave feels/gets better soon Ms Mel. You are too funny!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the ride.
Darling Dave is such a good sport!!!
ReplyDeleteDave gets an A+ for shopping and... well...let's just say we won't be calling him Lance Armstrong...hope you are feeling better soon, Dave..hugs to you.....
ReplyDeleteThinkin' of you guys and hope Dave de-spasms soon!
ReplyDeleteOh these macho husbands! Hope he feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteOuch. My fibromyalgia chastises me when I overdo things, but biking for hours would NEVER be on my agenda since I think my muscles would punish me for a year, if they let me do it at *all*.
ReplyDeleteThat said, it sounds like the ride may have been worth the pain. I really hope he feels better soon, and that this doesn't scare him out of using his spiffy new bike again soon.
Will you also have him stuffed?
ReplyDeleteI hope Dave is feeling better soon. Ya'll got to remember not to push it too much. (we are not getting younger).
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe he should shop for a hot tub.
Vets are expensive...
Dave is so groovy so don't have him put down...the 2 of you both remind me of the famous Auntie Mame quote..."life is a banquet and most fools are starving to death"...y'all arent the starving ones but the ones who are feasting so I hope he recoveries and bounces back quickly. hangeth in!
ReplyDeleteI hope you change your mind about having him put down. Seems like a waste of good horse flesh to me.
ReplyDeleteHope your dear Dave is back in the saddle real soon.
Hmmm...me thinks toe baskets and PD are a real bad combo.
ReplyDeletePoor guy. As the queen of wipeouts, I can empathize......I get so tired of having bruises that I have NO idea where they came from. I think I fall in my sleep.
I'd say give him a big hug for me but....just blow him a kiss....

Ask Dave's doctor about quinine for muscle cramps/spasms. If it doesn't conflict with his other meds, etc., it just might help ease the cramps. Mine went away after two weeks or so, and now I only take it as needed. I don't have PD so things might be different for Dave.
ReplyDeleteWishing him well..
I'm so sorry..cramps hurt so bad. There is a product on the market called "Calm"..herb stores sell it or you can get it on the web too. It is a magnesium citrate blend. Hubby is insisting that he also drink gator aid...it helped him so much with his cramps...and maybe a bit of a calsium drink...that comes in a grapefruit flavor...
ReplyDeleteHope Dave is feeling better soon. A trip to the ER for any reason is enough to drive you crazy. A wild ride on a day of ups and downs..Ugh...gimlets, mmmm
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Dave's mishap, hope he's better soon. Tell him we are sending positive thoughts his way.
ReplyDeleteAlso, when I had my hysterectomy a couple of years ago, my roommate informed me that it would have been cheaper to just go to the vet and get myself "fixed"!! She was right about that!
