Could you say 'No Thank You?'

Me either. It was unbelieveably delicious. When you come, diet for a month first.

This is the site of the workshop, the carriage house.

Across a babbling brook. The water is really crystal clear, not muddy like we have in IL.

The backside of the Inn. I will not post my backside.

The workshop room is big and bright and each table comes with its own electical circuit.

That means a lot to fusers. I am trembling with anticipation.

#1
Since I am never truly prepared, I made use of the day alone in the studio and made up some samples for class. This 6x9" piece illustrates dark values, and low contrast, but something about it said, Make it again, only big.

#2
So I did. It took about an hour and used large pieces of fabric that I look at often and never use. I am making progress on expanding my palette. Then I thought I had better put away all my stuff and get ready for the arrival of my students. I piled up my fabrics and Boing! I saw a new quilt forming on the pile...

I took a picture and began by tracing the shapes as they lay there, with a sliver of soap, my preferred marking tool. Then I cut away the areas that were covered by the layer of fabric above it. This was easy to do but hard to explain. Mostly I don't want seven or eight layers of fabric for my composition.

#3
Everything is one layer fused atop an edge of the layer below. I should take a picture of the back to make this clearer.

The three new pieces on a sheet of foamcore, for scale. I don't have a tape measure with me so no dimensions are available yet.
I liked #3 so much that I imported into the computer and dinked around with it and came up with this design which I think needs to be made too. Can you tell I am having a ball!

Wonderful. Beautiful. Both the location and the work. Please turn #2 180 degrees just for the heck of it....

And there isn't a darned thing wrong with your backside. You should be proud of the wonderful shape you are in.

  5. The sign of a true artist - trying to put fabric away and you couldn't stop because you saw the wonderful serendipitous composition. You are in my old stomping grounds. I lived in that area for 10 years just before California alled us!!

  8. It looks as if the landscapes that you were so interested in have had an effect on your creative eye. I particularly like the 'dinked' design as it is redolent not only of landscape but also of architecture. It glows.
