My Resolutions from 2005
Yeah, like did they stick? Not remembering them helps, but the one that does come to mind is
To try and have a more normal life.
That meant having less stress and saying no to stuff that would cause stress, which I pretty much did. There are always things that can't be avoided, but most of the time it is caused by saying yes to things that cannot possibly be accomplished without agony of some kind.
The worst stress comes from packing for a trip, and I think I have figured that one out, finally.
Second, I had the hope and prayer that Dave would be able to leave his job and that happened. Then there was unexpected stress, having him home, and getting adjusted to having someone here all the time, mostly. But his presence has been so well regulated into our routine that when he went away for the New Year's weekend, I actually missed him!
Keep the studio clean
This has actually worked. I removed lots of stuff and took things off the walls and swept up regularly and that made it better. And when I work, I have figured out how to keep my fabric organized so that it is easy to find without resorting to the pile method. I roll it, making it smaller and easier to grab.
Resolutions I couldn't keep
I resolved not to buy more yarn. Stop laughing. I know I missed the mark big time there. However there is hope for 2006.
I got past the year-end week of sales yarnless and even retained my JoAnn's 40% off coupon after visiting two stores! Nothing! I do have a gift certificate to tempt me however, but that will be the end of it, or I shall have to start storing yarn in the bathroom.
I resolved to stay on my diet. O boy. I am way off the mark there. I am afraid of getting on the scale, and have put it off for three months.
However there is hope for 2006.
I know my weaknesses and they start with wine. After my birthday, I woke up in the middle of the night with the concept of going off wine and caffeine, my two biggest vices. Not forever, but for better.
The way I look at it, I lose interest in behaving when drinking wine. Shocking? Yes it is true. And my diet resolve peeters away too. So killing two birds with one stone ( not to mention brain cells) I climbed on the wagon last week and have struggled to stay on it one day at a time. This is not a challenge for some, but right before Christmas I purchased two cases of wine, and most of it is still here, staring me in the face.
The caffeine?? Well, that's just vanity. I want to get my teeth whitened and what is the point if I am going to stain them all over again with tea and coffee?
I also resolved to stay on top of paperwork, dye ahead and stop comparing myself and my career to others in my field. I am only shooting 50% on these, so they are retained for one more year, until they actually become a habit.
Any new resolutions for 2006?
O you know, I am going to make better artwork, and this time I mean it!

  1. No caffeine!!!! I've had to do without the wine or alcohol but caffeine is hard. I went w/o coffeee last week after surgery and had a major rip roaring headache by about day3. Yikes,...it was worse than my nose. A can of diet coke fixed it.
    Good luck!

Put the wine in Dave's kitchen.
It is there for HIM to serve to guests!

  3. I'm with you on the wine...same deal with me. I lose all control...

So I opened the tap on the half-consumed box of Franzia and let it go down the drain. I had my son play Taps on his violin.

You are a much stronger woman than I.....I gave up smoking (ok, that WAS 22 years ago but hey) I am TRYING to stay away from Killian's but I am NOT giving up wine, coffee and Chai. I am, however, limiting my intake....trying for moderation in all things, even chocolate. Hey, I have lost 10 pounds in the last month and that included the holidays!!

But, no more yarn until I put a dent in what I already have (ok, not counting the 3 skeins of Opal I ordered from Germany or the hand dyed I just ordered from Canada). No more new projects until I get caught up (art wise)! I MUST break myself of this habit of starting but not finishing.

    Keep the cattle prod handy.

  5. I would have thought that comparing yourself to others in your field would be a big perk of the job, being you!!!

As far as storing yarn in the bathroom goes, just be glad you aren't a spinner too - I steam the twist into mine in the shower!
