Emily Hatches a Plan

January 28th is her husband Dave's birthday and knowing me, and my entertainment gene, she conspired with me to produce a surprise party for him. While lying and scheming are not in her nature, she managed to get him to our house under some elaborate ruse and he was indeed mildly surprised.

The two Daves. Birthday boy on the right. He's 41

It is also my brother Cary's birthday, so it became a double duty delight. He's 47
and still single... Cindy has stepped into the ring, and we applaud her optimism.

It was a well behaved group at the beginning and the dinner was gobbled and slurped and by the time we got to the birthday Tiramisu...

it got nutty. Both Birthday Boys had candles to play with.

The Very Serious Dave

The Very Dopey Cary.
I must take a moment to comment on the Tiramisu made by Emily. It was by far the most decadent and sensual eating experience of my life. Omigod!
She said the recipe called for Kahlua to be sprinkled over the ladyfingers which are the base of the cake. The fact that they didn't seem to be absorbing much of the liquor, made Emily feel a bit more needed to be added, until she used more than half the bottle. Believe me, it was worth it. Creamy and Dreamy. The men all had second helpings. I think I may have too...it's all a blur.
Actually I do remember lots of dancing and raucous singing at the very top of our lungs. Dave's new stereo equipment took center stage and the oldies on our computer became a game of guess who, and O play so and so. Johnny Rivers, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Devo, Simon and Garfinkel...it was so corny and fun!
Of course Em and I were knitting during the singing/screaming parts. My throat is raw this morning, so you know I had a great time.

You appear to be up awefully early for having hosted raucus partying last night ;-) And do I spot a Melody Johnson Shawl on Cindy's shoulders?

  6. Oh good grief Mel, I should know by now that anything we do could be blog fodder, but poor Dave has no clue. Wait til I show him this.
