The Art and Soul of Quilting

Dave and I drove up to Kenosha WI for the gala opening of the Art and Soul of Quilting at the Anderson Art Center, located about three inches from Lake Michigan. It was a gloomy day but the art there was all EYE CANDY. This wonderful piece by our girlfriend Tommy Fitzsimmons was one of the first to catch my eye. I had never seen it before, and was struck by it's elegance.

This is another piece of hers, so near the wine table, and the two women standing there were discussing who loved it more.
Ahem, I am trying to take a picture here...

And then who should I spot but our true bud Sonji!! In all her artiness (black turtleneck, and black sexo-yo-momma boots). She had two pieces in the show, and hopefully she has a better picture of the other one, which I blurred.

The full shot and detail, too wunderbar. And so RED.

This super kool piece is by Liz Berg and doncha just love the movement and the way the quilting makes it come alive. Yummamente, and you know that makes me drool.

I am sorry to say that I don't have the artist's name on this piece, and the wonderfulness of its detail. All fabric strips, about 1/4th inch wide each. Stitched down, o geesh!

Carol Taylor's two breathtaking pieces hung upstairs where this one woman was again in my way. grrr. It was a very crowded show, believe me.

Best of Show winner was done by Terri Haugen "Let The Loveless Fade"

Thanks to Kay Sorenson for sending me this artist and title and congratulations to Terri on this win!

  1. Thank you for bringing the art show to us. Lis Berg was my favorite. I hope you feel better. This is what to do to feel better. A hot epson salt soak, put on flannel pj, rub vicks on chest and behind neck and wrap flannel around loosely, cover head or wear warm knitted cap, socks. It is important that feet and head are kept warm. Get in bed with at least 3 soft pillows to prop up a little to breath better. Hubby must bring the hot tea and lemon to bed. Drink immediately and lay down and sweat.

Thanks for taking us to the show with you. Don't worry about the people that got included in your shots- when that happens, while we are on vacation, I always tell myself that the people help give the photo scale!

Wow. I LOVE the stitching in Liz's piece. It really looks like brush strokes. And Tommy's piece! So subtle and, as you said, elegant. I don't think I've ever seen her work in such a subdued pallette. Of course, I always love Carol's work. That second piece is a change for her.

And so happy to see Sonji looking so good; not to mention you and Dave!

Thanks for taking us all along to the show.
