Self Portrait Tuesday on Wednesday

Before Breakfast and then right before I left for my evening lecture

Several blogs are doing a Self-Portrait thing on Tuesdays and while it is not like bungie-cord jumping off a bridge, or burying oneself in maggots, it does take a modicum of guts to post it on one's blog. This is the 46th shot, and the only one that I could stand to post. NOT a speck of makeup, hair uncombed ( who could tell) but my shawl looks good. I knit it in New Zealand while I was there (one week) and wore it home on the plane. That was now about xxx years ago and I may have worn it once since.

Anyway, I think it is a good way to keep current and have a way of seeing history when I look back to this post sometime in the future.

Today is special as I have a lecture tonight in Illinois!!
This is so rare that I can barely remember the last time it happened. I so seldom work in my own home state. It may be my weird quilts (fused) or it may be that I am unknown to the guilds around here. I never teach in quilt shops, or even venture into them. But there is a new one opening tonight, Quail Creek Quilt Company, owned by my friend and Janome dealer Linda Remmers and Danette Baker (who I don't know yet), in Woodstock IL. I really wish I could attend the opening, but I have my own 'opening' in Antioch.

I have figured out the most important part of my guest shot tonight...what I will wear. Since it is so damn hot, I will go sleeveless, so Fish Bellies are out tonight for all the world to see. My new sandals and slim black pants complete the ensemble...O and fake diamonds everwhere!

Also, this guild is not hiring me for a workshop, as this is a kind of last minute gig, so I prepared a workshop in a bag for those entrepid members who can read/follow directions and work independently. I have made a cd which is openable in MS Word, and it is step-by-step (with pictures and words of course) of how to make Bodacious Bloomers. While I really liked the Fons and Porter article, my own pictures were not used in the magazine, or my article would have been 17 pages long. The Workshop in a Bag includes the cd, two half yard rainbow fabrics, and the two necessary rotary cutter blades, the wavy and the pinking. I am really proud of the label I made for the cd. woowoo.
It is a larger version of the quilt, in which I have superimposed the title. This quilt is currently at Quilter's Corners in Sacramento California, a sample for the workshop I will be doing there next month.

Tonight I will also be bringing the new gradation fabrics that I recently dyed, so that makes two new things to premiere. woowoo!

I still haven't had a chance to make anything with this yummy fabric, but there is still the whole rest of August, so stay tuned.

Of course I will also be doing a lecture, a one hour Power Point presention with lots more quilts than I can usually bring on an airplane trip. This will be so much fun for me. Who doesn't like talking about their quilts and getting paid for it too?

By the way, for those in the five state area there is going to be a memorial sale of the late Meredyth Colberg's fiber art supplies this Friday, from 4pm till 9. I'll see you all there.

  1. Would you consider selling your workshop in a bag on-line or to bloggers? Think of it as "distant education" for CSF.
