Works on Paper: Digitally Framed

Is this fun or what? I used a feature in Picasa3, the free program I use to download my photos, called Museum Matte. (their spelling, not mine).
These are all pieces that are collaged or painted on paper, or archival mat board and are just now sitting unframed in my storage box. I didn't take them very seriously until I saw them digitally framed. Now they look substantial!
One can alter the size or color of both the mat and frame. The only thing I haven't been able to do is move the artwork so that the mat is deeper at the bottom of the frame, as I was often taught to do.

Here I have made the frame one of the colors in the composition.

This little painting, only 6x6" looks fabulous framed, if I do say so myself. I should make a bigger version...

A cropped detail, takes on a whole new look.

Even my practice pieces look worthy, suddenly.

 Awww, my babies!

  1. Love 'em framed, even the dawgs! But the mat and frame definitely add to the appearance of your paintings. Years ago, I had a bunch of paintings on canvas board that I was going to toss. My mom took them, had them framed, and what a difference! I still have them hanging on my wall...

  2. Wauw Melody, that's a great feature. You can see in one eye-blink if the painting is worth framing... I'm going to search for this new tool on Picasa so I can 'frame' my work too. Thanks for sharing.

That is a wonderful feature. It seems to me that framing often legitimizes a piece regardless of whether it is painted or is a textile.
