I'll be reading . . .

Now that I have suspended my hang-up over reading in the daytime, I returned to the used bookstore (McKay's) in Chattanooga and had a field day. Dave and I were having our date day, bowling first, (I broke 100!) and then he dropped me off at the bookstore while he browsed at Northern Tool. I had two coupons and luck was with me. I found several authors who had eluded my search in the past.

So excited to find two by Julian Fellows, creator of Downton Abbey, and since I love love loved Gone Girl, I wanted to read more by author Gillian Flynn.

Lynda LaPlante is my new fave, creator of Prime Suspect (Helen Mirren) which I am currently rewatching on Netflix. And Ian Rankin created the Rebus series, also on Netflix. Love a good mystery/crime/thriller. Obviously
I am a little obsessed with Robert B. Parker and his continuing characters, so altho some of these will be rereads, I am happy to be in his entertaining sphere.

Agatha Raisin is very light, but like sorbet, a good treat between heavy bouts of gore.

Some of these were under a dollar and one was a big $12.00. I will return these and get a chit to buy more, so even the expensive ones end up being a great trade.

  1. It's fun to see what you are reading, and get a few new ideas for myself. Have you read Laurie King's books? I'm currently reading the new Margaret George book about Queen Elizabeth 1.

  2. Perhaps my favorite post ever. I love (and have read) most of these authors. I highly recommend my new favorite, the Simon Serrailler series, by Susan Hill. Start at the beginning if you can, with A Question of Identity. I learned a long time ago you're allowed to read in daylight--so liberating!

  4. I love your pile of reading!! I am a great fan of MC Beaton and am happily reading all her books in order!! Agatha is particularly dear to my heart - she lives near where I lived in the Cotswolds and I have a great empathy with her (not on the murder side :-)) I am also a great fan of murder, detective genre and am so glad I purchased a Kindle last year - I have 53 books yet to read so its nice not to have such a huge pile but great to have so many to choose from !

  5. I read a lot of the same authors. If you like the British settings I recommend Peter Robinson, Elizabeth George and Deborah Crombie's books. Peter Robinson's have been made into a British TV series, DCI Banks. Starting to be broadcast on PBS stations in the US this week. And Elizabeth George's Inspector Lynley series was done a few years ago, I think it's on Netflix.

  6. Our library loans e-books too. I don't have a reader, and personally prefer holding a book...I think. If you have a regional library, you might download some books that way too.

  7. You have some of my favorite authors in your pile(s). I am a little slow to discover Agatha Raisin but have devoured those books these last couple months. MAN! She makes me so mad with her "need a man" crap.....and yet I can't put the books down! Gotta love that.

  14. If you like Agatha Raison, try her Hamish Macbeth series. I prefer them and they are very light as well. They were made into a fun TV series as well.

  17. Clearly you have hit a nerve with us quilter/readers. I LOVED this post. It reminded me to look for more Joanna Trollopes. You might also enjoy Louise Penny, if you haven't tried her--Canadian setting with a cast of colorful regulars. I'm also very high on Mo Hayder--not for the squeamish but riveting. I have had to sacrifice some quilting hours to her books!
