Jail-Gate

Dave has devised a porch gate to keep the dawgs outside yet prevent them from running into the drive, into oncoming UPS or postal trucks. We luvs us some plastic panels. They seem to feel safer now, and don't need us to be out there with them. And we do have three other entrances into the house, so the gates don't need to be unhooked to get us all in. There are actually five portals to this house o'many doors.
I had a wonderful time with our friend Rose and now she has returned to Chicago for a new job and I hope to see her again next year.
We talked our heads off, or rather, I talked and she nodded and hmm'ed.
And we went shopping! She needed new work clothes and I needed a chest of drawers for all my knits but found these closet shelves did the trick and saved me oodles of moolah. Kohl's, half price.
Obviously I need help. Not nearly enough shoes!
Seriously, 39 sweaters, vests and shawls? I had these on HANGERS, a big knit no-no. So this is quite an improvement. I still have a set of drawers for scarves, hats and cowls. When the weather cools, I am going to have a blog sell sale-off of knit but never worn anywhere items. I'll let you find a place to store them!

The garden is producing while my back was turned. I only picked one beet, but there are many many more. And look at my first ever carrots! Nantes. Shorties but goodies. I have already eaten that green pepper.
Here it is on our breakfast feast plate. Cheesey omelet with sour cream and avocado, tomatoes, bacon and the green pepper. Obviously this isn't everyday fare. I got to cook for my guest, and it was so delightful to share. And now back to our regular programming.

Schools down here are already back in session, since they take off so many days for a fallen snowflake. The passing school buses get me thinking about indoor pursuits. It has been the looooonnngggest summer ever, with hot and dry to hot, wet and muggy weather keeping me indoors for months. I am so looking forward fall, which I never thought I would say. I'd like to sit on the deck and knit or read, finally, waiting all these months for it to be bearable. Indoors, my studio is set up for painting now, but after clothes shopping, I got the urge to sew. I seem to have energies going in all directions. It's a good thing.

  1. Wonderful idea. It nice that your porch is shaded also and I am sure the dogs love it. We also have a large deck with unfenced country property. We put a gate on our deck many years ago and sometimes it is just nice to get the dogs out of the house. Our deck is not shaded, so they only get to use it when temps don't get over 75F and they have a large solid table to get under if they do need shade and big bowl of water when it is 75F.
