Vestido Rios

I was doing so well knitting with just a single colored yarn, and then I fell in love with this multicolored (arco iris) Malabrigo Rios. I should know better, but  my real nature is "All colors, all the time" and I can't help myself. When you see it in the skein it looks so different than when it is knit up, which is why I went nuts and whipped out my credit card.

When it is knit up it loses its multiness and dissolves into...meh. Therefore I am forced to add a few more colors to bring the oomph.












  Just the purl rows are the Malabrigo.
So because I have to add more colors, I must design a project that will fit them all in.


The resulting vest incorporates all the colors that I saw in the original ball of multicolored Rios, so in the end I am just using it as a theme yarn. Hrumpfh. I have added some hand dyed merino, some Rowan and Zara merinos too. This time I thought ahead and saved the bottom part of the vest for the darker colors.

It seems to me that I have to relearn this lesson over and over again. It is better to go for a multicolored yarn that is spun rather than hand dyed. Then the resulting knitting gets the long spaces of color I want to see.

I'll be adding a button band, something sleeve-y and a finishing rib to this vest today, and hopefully I will find shirt in my wardrobe that works to wear with it.
