It's one thing to sketch up an idea to knit, and a whole 'nother thing when you see the knit come to life. This looked like a good idea when I drew it out. But then I went nutso and over did it with too much variety stitchwise. FYI, this would have been one of three panels which would be knit together to form the front or back of a pullover.
Things I don't like:
1. That turquoise is way too dominant and doesn't really work with the multicolor yarn.
2. The seed stitch is too jumbled and distracting, and ultimately an unnecessary element.
3. The small inserted contrasting dots of color are cute, but kind of on the subtle side...and carrying the yarn behind makes that area thicker and...eh, I am not convinced it should stay.
4. Seed, stockinette, garter... Pick ONE! And pick one variety of central decrease too.
And what I do like? The YARN. Malabrigo Rios, so yummy, and I added some other good stuff, like Rowan Cashsoft (that pink at the top). So I don't think this was a waste of time, because my fingers got to fondle delicious yarns, and see how they looked together. My decisions about how to precede are formed by this test knitting, and I know what to change to make the finished product better. So ripping out is next and less variety in stitches, while keeping the colors (fixing that turquoise choice) will make me happy.
I don't know much about knitting, but I do like what you've done with this piece - I think all the different stitches and textures are interesting! More proof of the old adage "beauty lies in the eye of the beholder"!!
ReplyDeleteI love the beautifully textured and colored yarns. I can see what you are saying about the piece. I've found that I don't mind ripping out. Ultimately I'll be happier and it gives me more knitting time which is what it's all about.

ReplyDeleteI don't care for the bunchiness of the turquoise in that one spot, but I do love the dots of color change. Love that lime green on the bottom!!!
