Thinking about Circles

I've been thinking about doing some new work and making a change from straight lines and squares to more circular shapes....like that would be new. But, I recently was updating my pictures and saw that there have been quite a few circles in my work over the years. How easily we forget, or at least how easily I don't remember. Duh.

Some of these are from my early days, but still I have done circles quite often, even recently with my Pink Spidey, which I am calling a circle shape. There must still be more things to do with a circle, mustn't there? Anyway I gotta give it a try.
I collected these images from http://www.wowmelody.com/ which I rarely visit and also my Picasa Album

Brita asked: Do have emotional attachments to your work?
Well, I love some more than others, but no, I can't say I would be heartbroken if anything left my closet. I make them to share, and keeping anything just for myself doesn't seem to be necessary. When I first started out in art school, I had some paintings stolen out of the drying racks, and then later I had several quilts stolen from a couple of shows. Those made me upset, but then I had to let that feeling go.

Good ol' Pink Spidey.

  2. Those two galleries are just awesome!!!! Anyone looking for art for their home should have no problem finding the perfect piece.

BTW, I've ordered the rug for my living room to go with Full Sails! I didn't get the one that looked like it was made for it! I decided it would make the room too dark and went an entirely different way....a huge sunflower with the golds and "paprikas" and greens. After much discussion with my girlfriends we decided it was perfectly eclectic!

  3. I must admit...I love your "art" with circles more than squares...but that's just me :)

  4. What a range of style! I have a few faves, but I'm particularly intrigued by the one that looks like you did a lot of embroidery embellishment on the circles as well as 'arms' outside the large circle. Did you dye the floss you used? Betcha!

  5. You have done quite a lot of circle work. I like them too. I particularly like the moo n behind the trees, spring and the close up of the circles with the hand embroidery.
You are truly an artist! They are all exceptional.

  8. Wow, Melody, your work is just stunning. I'm not sure I could be so calm about my artwork being stolen. However, I do find that I have less of an attachment once an item is finished. It's more the process for me than the product.

  12. The sun/moon behind the trees is my favorite of those, but they're all fantastic! What is the technique on the last three -- are those snippets or threadwork or what? I'd love to hear a description of the techniques you used on some of the more unusual ones.

  13. Love the match stick moons and the one with only one full lot of circles with halves and quarters all round - very painterly.
It must be great to see how your art has evolved.
