The Long Winter of My Discontent is OVER

The painting of the house is finished, again, and this time I mean it.
It began in early November when we hired Mike to remove the walpaper and paint the bubble tub room. I loved this color so much that I thought we should also have the other bathroom painted too. That lead to more wallpaper removal, a new sink, faucet and mirror and a painted vanity. Delightful.
We were out of the bubble tub room paint at that point and had to get more for the bathroom, which turned out to be slightly greener, but no matter since the rooms are not adjacent, no one would know.

This is where the scary music should come in.

While on a roll the hallway got the new color too, and more paint got purchased, but in this case the original base paint that gets tinted our color was DISCONTINUED. No matter, as again the rooms are not adjacent. So our color got mixed from a different base, nearly the same,  and on we went, la dee dah.
Then the the living room and kitchen got painted. And I was breathing a sigh of relief, as it was already January and painting had been going on upstairs in my room too, and there was always paint cans, brushes, trays, and tools set up in the middle of the living room floor....FOR THREE MONTHS.

The old living room color and then the new color (before we rearranged the furniture).

And then we noticed places that needed touch-ups.
Scary music...
Dave used the wrong color. With all those paint cans, all nearly the same color it was an easy mistake to make, but so obvious once it got on the wall. We must have been out of the right color, so every time he attempted the fix, it was wrong again. Trying to get the right color and finding it was discontinued led me to try a substitute and that turned out disasterously wrong too.
The bathroom got repainted and so did the hallway. I felt so bad for Dave, but he kept plugging away as the paint cans multiplied on the living room floor.
Now on the fifth gallon of Eggshell finish, Lyric Water Dance by Better Homes and Garden, he has repainted just about everything possible and at last the paint cans ARE GONE !!!
And not a moment too soon. Once the weather is nice, all indoor stuff comes crashing to a halt while we pay attention to the yard. Luckily this week has been a steady rain week and thus the saga ends.
Ok, Spring you may enter now.

  7. I am such a copy cat! I had to go find a similar colour, but the one I've ended up with is lighter. It will be for the kitchen and the bathroom. I hope we don't have to patch things at any point. However the toilet (we keep our in a separate room) is umm, lurid 8-) I couldn't figure out if I wanted to paint it orange or purple. (I should blog the result...)
