My Favorite Crayons

My Favorite Crayons top unquilted. 58.5x75" Hand dyed and commercial cottons. Machine pieced.

Close-ups
I had lots of fun with this one. It was more improvisational once I got going, even tho I started with a plan.  I forgot all about sticking with a color scheme, so this ended up being all the crayons in the box. It may get another strip or two on the sides, but not the top or bottom. I just ran out of time and energy for the day.

The process was to make the triangle combinations first and then stripsets and lengths of plain fabrics were added. I think the long expanses of plain are totally necessary to balance out the busy pieced sections. To make it look 'designed' I would line up sections with seams on the adjacent panel. To make things fit, fabric needed to be added or cut away as needed. And then there are other places that don't connect at all. That's just the way this quilt is.
