Who is in charge?

Chumley insists that he sleep with me, and eat in the spa room (Popeye's crunchies) and that is both good and bad. If the animals are confined to one small room, I can keep track of their food and water, clean up the puppy pads and keep the rest of the house for people.
The good part, or shall I say the BEST part is that maybe my studio is back to being mine! Yay!!!
And then the not so good part is that the dog snores ALL NIGHT and takes up quite a lot of my skinny single bed. I got about 22 inches of it. But then the good part is that I didn't suffer the cold night one bit. He is like a hot water bottle, a heavy snorting hot water bottle. And so sweet when he puts his head on my arm and snuzzles. And so painful when he stands on my breasts. Oy! I shall have to sleep defensively.
PS.Maybe he should get a dog bed of his own???

  1. Hah! Bed of his own? Good luck with that one! But you could reduce your discomfort with the snores... my hubby snores like a buzz-saw, and I use ear-plugs, which reduces his snoring to white-noise. Either that, or maybe Chumley needs breathe-right strips? Oh yeah, where to put them! Hmmmm..... ;-D

When we got my "new" dog a few years ago, we didn't want her in the bed - so she has a little doggie bed in several places in the house - the little round kind are her fav - she curls up, just loves them! I bet Chumley would like a curl up bed too!

  3. I could easily substitute the word 'dog' for 'my husband' and post this on my blog.

  4. My cat, Mango, is my "hot water bottle" - I love it!!! My husband stays on his side of the bed or in the middle and Mango and I have the rest!!!! Cozy and warm....with the occasional licking snuggle!!!

  5. My husband has been known to wake me in the middle of the night to tell me to stop snoring. He doesn't realize the sounds are coming from our pug who is sleeping on the bed between us.

  6. I think it is only a matter of time until you surrender to the inevitable purchase of a full or queen size bed. If you are anything like me, I would much rather go to THAT trouble (new size sheets, blankets, etc.) than have my warm Labrador far away on the floor on a dog bed. For this very same reason, my hubby and I are now shopping for a king - our queen is just too small for me, my hub, and my loves-to-sleep-crosswise sweet-love-dawg. Life is too short to not sleep like a "pack", in my opinion! Keep us posted!

Our 60+ lb. pitbull used to love to sleep in the bed but now prefers the couch. I think she likes having all that space to herself. Maybe Dave could use a snuggle buddy!

  8. A dog bed sounds like a good idea. It must be somewhat cramped in a single bed.

  9. Oh I just saw the best thing in a magazine where the woman used an old suitcase that she had made into a dog bed. She somehow made it so the top stayed open and covered the interior with her fabrics from her purse business. The dogs - yes she had more then one loved their new beds. I can just picture some of the wonderful things you would come up with!

I make dog beds stuffed with my leftover scraps and threads. I have a trash can that stays by my sewing machine and it is amazing how quickly it fills up. Maybe he would like that since it will be mostly your fabric, yarns, etc as the filler. Smell like mom, you know?

My poodle-cross has her own bed, and starts the night there...I wake up to find her inside mine. She can get under the covers without waking me, and I think she makes her move about 3-4 am when it gets cold. The colllie sleeps anywhere, but gets on the bed while I read, for a snuggle, then hops of when the light goes out. I wouldn't have it any other way!

  12. Oh that's so funny! Our little puppy doesn't sleep in our bed since he's in his crate at night.

But every morning after I take him outside the puppy and I snuggle on the futon in the family room for a couple hours. That's even smaller than a single bed so I'm on my side and he lays right next to my chest. After 20 minutes or so he gets tired of me breathing on him LOL! so he moves down to my feet. It's soooo sweet ... I love starting the mornings like that.

Maybe you could do something similar with a doggie bed for the nighttime?

  13. My pug has slept with me for over 10 years and now that I am single, I can't imagine him sleeping anywhere else. He doesn't snore as loud as he use to. But he does hog the bed! And I have a queen size bed.

  14. I love when our 65 lb, 3 yr old, rescue dog sleeps with us! Usually my husband wont let him, but I dont mind being crushed on the bed with him! He does some light snoring too!!

  15. Yep, the animals are always in charge. One of our cats likes to sleep on my face, so I've learned to angle an arm in between him and me so that I can still breathe. People without pets don't always understand the bond and what it means to the pet to sleep with mommy or daddy. Good luck! :-)
