Not a Christmas Shopping Spree

Starting with my knitting group, which is always so much fun, Ellen of the felted bags from the previous post gifted me with this huge hank of silk and merino fingering yarn. I may keep it natural or dye it...I'll decide later.

Then, I have been on a quest to find shelled hazlenuts ever since our Knitting Guild luncheon where I ate chicken breast encrusted with hazlenuts with a dried cherry glaze. Finding hazlenuts has not been easy. But there are several high end fancy grocery stores in Chattanooga and the first one I tried had them in their bulk foods bin. $10.99 a pound! Yipes, but I got a half pound anyway. And there were the cherries too, so I am all set.

Despite warnings of terrible traffic (as if!) there were a few items I needed at Joann's Fabrics to complete my bedroom re-do plans, not exciting but necessary. More green cotton, which got eaten up making welting, actual welting cord, instead of clothesline, and tension rods for my mini curtain plans. All were on sale or coupon worthy. Since the quilting books were also 30% off I decided to treat myself to this book which will aid in my quest for glorious toomuchness, since Freddy Moran is the queen. Gwen Marston makes my kind of wonky quilts, so it is perfect inspirational stuff. You know, I rarely mention this sort of thing but when I was out there in the quilt world I worked with these gals at several venues. Super fun, nice gals.

I feel a quilt bubbling up inside me...so I got some new batting too. Also on sale.
Then it was onto Publix, my fave grocery, to get some meat. For our anniversary earlier this month I got a beef rib roast for $5.99 a pound. So delicious and at a price that can't be beat.

As you know I am a member of the Secret Beefeater's Society.

I wanted another one and while I was there I noticed ground chuck for $2.99 a pound. Amazing! It's like a time warp. I stopped buying ground beef because my local Walmart doesn't grind in house, and I am finicky, being married to a retired butcher. But this hamburger was dazzling and ground in house, so I scooped up over five pounds. I made some for dinner and it was just like Dave ground it himself. So yummy and it made me so happy.

Everyone I met yesterday, including the store clerks were so happy and friendly and not the least bit stressed out. I had such a wonderful time shopping in town, feeling festive, and despite the sunny 57 degree day, it did feel like Christmas!
