Shifting Focus

I will be teaching for five days at Fabrications at the end of this month and I need to fill in the gaps in the fabric I'll be bringing for my students. What is missing from this stash? Orangey-red, deeper blues, all sorts of yellows and greens, just about all my favorite colors which I have taken for myself from this collection. The pastels are all gone and as are the dark darks. Lots of dyeing is ahead of me, so I woke up early ready to jump in.

I'll be dyeing indoors since I CAN. Now that I have a washable floor, I don't have to be as careful about drips. I will use my styrofoam platters and also do some container dyeing.
This set up is so much nicer than the arrangement I used to have in my old house in Cary IL.
And of course I am not dyeing the tons of fabrics that I used to when I was working regularly.
Just looking at this old picture makes me tired.
Now I have all month to leisurely create new fabrics. Sigh.
Here's an improvement that I didn't have in the old set up. A back and foot saving rubber mat. I finally got smart. Better late than never.

  1. As I plan a day of dyeing on my Victorian's porch, I looked at your studio pictures with envy!! I sit on a bucket and do it - my husband says that I give dyeing and kicking the bucket a whole new meaning (grin)!

  2. I to envy your workspace! I dye on the washer/dryer in the laundry room, and at least have a rinse sink right there. But I have to go to the garage if I want to do any large pieces, and it's just not the same! Can't wait to see pix of the dyed fabrics!

  7. CARY??? You lived in Cary? Well, I'll be hornswoggled! I find you now. Huh. I worked in Cary for 7 years. I live in Wonder Lake!

    If only I'd known. Dang!

  9. ooh, more fun coming up! I'm gearing up for dyeing fabric. By the time I've gotten over my BC operation, I should have all the material I've ordered and I can start working on actually applying dye to fabric 8-)
(and thanks for the baby bonnet pattern too)

It certainly would be nice to dye indoors. Like Nina-Marie I set my stuff up on the front porch. The neighbors are always a bit curious about what I'm up to.
