Quilting Spidey
Speaking of color, I chose a very pale fabric for the background. It is so light that you just have to believe me that it is shades of yellow, pink and blue, but all so light that it reads as white. So different than my usual choice, but I was going for a more gentle look with the spiderwebs floating on a sea of air.
O how romantic that sounds...
Here's the quilting. Free motion for the light areas and stitch in the ditch (feed dogs up) for the blocks. Barely any color shows here. Just a blush of pink.
No binding for this one. I used the Escape Hatch Finish. The quilt measures 36x38" and is 95% hand dyed cottons, with just a few scraps of commercial prints in the mix. Fused, of course. It is smaller than the first Spiderweb, but even so, I will have to switch out something else if I want to hang it.
The walls are filling up around here.
Your Spidey Quilt is beautiful. I love the colors, the background and the quilting.

ReplyDeleteIt is incredible how the very light shades play with perception! Once this beautiful quilt will hang in place, there will be a play of sunshine and shadow, electric light versus daylight, evening and morning tints, and it will be interesting to see how this will influence the effect of the background.

ReplyDeleteLove it! The light background fabric really sets off the design, and the quilting is beautiful.

This is fabulous Melody. I think this one grabs me even more than the other one. Those darker webs really grab me, and I love the background fabric laying behind the spidey. You could rotate this one to my house!. Hmmm , now there's a thought, The Rotating Quilt Scheme! Bigger quilts could be rotated round various venues for a leasing fee. Various venues = my house 1st please.
