QAWM: Log Cabin Fever

I just had to make a Log Cabin after seeing Wanda's. And having a big stack of red, orange, pink, rust, magenta fabrics for the logs and lots of turquoise for the chimney made the color choices easy.

The layout is a different story.
I am just not sure the huge turquoise center is right. I could just slice an inch off each side and add another log to the remaining bunch and lessen the intensity of the turquoise...

Or cut the turq in half and add a contrasting triangle

Would I be happier with this idea?
I will let this simmer while I am away at knitting group today.

PS See the collection of QAWM tops on the QAWM Page above.

  1. I like the big turquoise centers. You could tone them down a bit with some red quilting.

  2. Wow, when you come back to quilting you do it with a roar, don't you? Such amazing work this last week, it's fun to watch!

  3. What an appropriate project for this time of year.

  4. I would add one more row of logs to the blocks and then the tuquoise won't be as prominent. I also like the triangle centers. I planned to do one with triangles as the center square in the near future.

I like the plain turquoise blocks. They may look good a little smaller. What I like about yours and Wanda's is with the same color in that position the quilts look 3 dimensional.

  7. My first thought when I saw the layouts was 'gorgeous colours, pity the turquoise isn't smaller'. I'm not a fan of the triangles - however I don't usually like traditional quilts. If it was mine and my sewing skills were up to it (inset seams is one thing that continually thwarts me!) would be to halve the size of the square by adding more orange logs. Otherwise putting some red or orange stitching around two sides of the turquose say in a zig zag could look really cool and dull it down. Plus when you join them the turquoise will be smaller anyway. I'd sacrifice two, join them up and try the zig zag if you have enough fabric. Love the one on white too, the blue is fine there.

  8. I love the turquoise centers... I think it is your zinger. I agree with using red thread for your quilting... I love your blocks.... can't wait to see it finished.
