Q&A on Stitchery
Sandra asks:

I would like to do some handwork on my fused piece but can't get any needle to go through the wonder under. What dumb thing I'm I doing wrong? Thanks.

Dear Sandra,

I am only stitching through a single layer of fabric and the batting. I never use a base fabric to fuse onto, leaving just the top layer fused to the batting. I also use a small eyed sharp needle and I am ONLY using regular Wonder-Under, never any other fusible web. I hope that helps.

What size and type of needle as I fuse the way you taught me, but the darn needle and thicker thread I use is tough to sew.

  2. Sorry I left out that important info. Embroidery thread and embroidery needles. Two or three strands of embroidery thread and a smaller longer eye will do the trick. I also love size 8 and 12 pearl cotton threads. Size 5 or 3 is too thick.

  3. You might try Joan Shay's appli-bond needles for heavier or more difficult-to-sew-through fabrics with any weight fusing. Someone told me about these and they saved my fingers. They do the trick. I am never without a few now.
