What I want for Christmas
A big steaming pile of rotting compost! I have a good start, which is about a quarter this size, but it needs more 'organic' waste, besides leaves and dead potted plants.
In the past we have purchased bags of composted manure and top soil (two tons!) for our garden
and in the very beginning we did have a truckload of mushroom compost delivered for our front garden. It made a seriously better garden than our bagged soils.
I love your blog and found myself so in tune with what you're saying and now... I'm so hungry for pierogies! And the compost pile is MOST impressive!

If you are looking for some more organic waste, we have plenty of alpaca manure. This is a neutral fertlizer and doesn't heat up but amends soil very well and if you want some, bring your shovel... You can have all you want free of charge or we have some already pulverized and bagged for $5 a bag. Come and see for yourself, we are in Coalmont.

I have a 5 gallon orange bucket from Home Depot for my kitchen waste (peelings, coffee grounds, egg shells, etc) and I also shred the newspaper, add in pine needles, fireplace ash... in a very nice compost bin I bought awhile back at the hardware store. Great way to amend the soil and cut down on the landfill waste!
ReplyDeleteI got my BIG perogie maker yesterday from the website you put on your blog. Interestingly, it came from Kelowna BC just 2 provinces over so it didn't take that long. It will make 18 perogies at one time...... I may have to try this out very soon!
