Untitled, hand dyed cottons, fused, unquilted so far
50x39"
I finished the top yesterday and sent this picture off to the client and am waiting to hear what she thinks. I am very happy to have had the challenge of doing this commission because the parameters were just perfect for me. The client wanted something non-pictorial and chose colors that I love and a size that was just this side of daunting.
I really had no picture in my mind as I set off to work, and procrastinated for days, finding miniscule reasons to put off beginning, but finally, determined to get a backbone, I dove in.
This is the first major piece I have made since moving to Tennessee. It feels good.
I will be quilting it, as soon as I get the nod from the client.
The way you do that is just amazing, Mel. This is a stunning piece! All the pieces blend together as one, and it's hard to imagine that they haven't always been this way. It's breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular... if she doesn't like it, she's crazy. :D
ReplyDeleteToo good to give away at a usual price. This is grand art.
ReplyDeleteMelody, I love this. Beautiful just as it is, without any quilting. I love the SW, and this seems like a Southwest sunet to me.

I agree! Definitely Southwestern, and drop-dead gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOMG! This is absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait to see it quilted. My first thought was a schooner at full sail on the ocean at sunset! Isn't it wonderful that we all see different things?
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, Melody! I too first thought of the sea and weathering storms and my first thought was that looking at this everyday would make me think that I could do anything! Can't wait to see what you come up with for the quilting. It must be amazing to see at that size! Breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colors and has a lot of movement...up up up! Love it!
ReplyDeleteFabulous colors and design! I can't wait to see how you're going to quilt it. Stunning.
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a stunning piece... thanks for sharing your process -- it's always fascinating!
ReplyDeleteWow! Wonderful, expansive and oh those colors. Has me ready to take on the day.
ReplyDeleteTotally Awesome! Looks like a ship with billowing sails to me. Very 3-d, it seems like its coming right off the wall towards me. Love, love, love it!
ReplyDeleteYou have a Dali thing going on there.
ReplyDeleteLove it, stunning!

It brings back memories of sitting on the porch of an inn in NM and watching the sun set. Had those amazing colors of dark purple and red. I didn't do photography then, but it is imprinted in my brain.
ReplyDeleteso vibrant
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't know better I would have thought it was painted. You are a master! It is stunning!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!!!!!! so much depth and vibration...You done good!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this has an ethereal quality. Very nice work.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is gorgeous and reminds me of a sunset.
ReplyDeleteI see POWER, it speaks volumes to me but it is all about power when I look at it. WOW

I know what you mean about putting off starting on a project. I love a quote from Walt Disney...."The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing."
ReplyDeleteI too think this is just beautiful. My first thought though was that it is a colourful look at a modern cityscape! Karen
ReplyDeleteOh my! You have such a feel for color as I have never seen. This piece is just luscious. I too, feel a SW vibe and see the most intense sunset vibrating. Stunning!
