Fern Forest

IMG_7022

Fern Forest

Hand dyed and commercial cottons, fused, hand and machine quilted, 16x18” $250

I have been working on this piece on and off for almost a week and I keep getting interrupted, so I am really glad to be finished today. The ferns are a favorite motif in my work, and now that I have planted some ferns in my garden-in-waiting I am hoping I will soon have a fern forest in real life.

I used a colored pencil to make the sky bubbles look more dimensional. That’s an old trick I learned from Gabrielle Swain.

  1. I love the colored pencil trick; I'll have to try it.

I went to Walmart yesterday and bought THE sandals; they're just as comfortable as you said. Now I just have to wait for warmer weather.

I love this fern piece. Ferns are one of my favorites and you have made a real beauty.

Thank you, too, for those nice big fonts. So easy to read it made my day.

Mostly thank you for sharing your beautiful work and ideas. I am glad I found this web blog.

  4. Great! Is this really the same piece as the detail with the ferns? The colour is so different. -- Lovely little stripes leading from the inside out on the frame.

  7. What a beautiful piece and what wondrous colors. You use such wonderful colors in your work. I am always excited to see more of it! As to ferns. I met the most interesting lady once who lived in the mountains north of Seattle in Gold Bar, Washington and raised ferns. She had three greenhouses and a nice chunk of land with a gorgeous cabin built on it and the whole place was devoted to ferns. I never had any idea before just how many types there are. They are a truly beautiful and diverse plant. She has a great website with a fern glossary showing all different types and their pictures. Just thought you might like to explore.. *^_^*

  8. I was going to write just one word, "lovely" to describe your piece, and see that several other commenters have also used this word!!!

  9. By the way, I changed the close-up shot which was discolored from my leaning over the piece causing a shadow. Duh. The detail shot is the correct color now.
