The New Regime
.
Now that we are guest-less we are redesigning our routine. It's always dramatic at times like these.
When Brooke and I saw our mom it was, um, eye opening, and we made a list of things we will do and not do and committed ourselves to paying attention to stuff that could easily get out of hand. We decided to live purposefully, not travel by the path of least resistance. This means taking control of what has heretofore been left to chance, simple things like collecting and dealing with the mail as it comes in. As I cleaned the house yesterday I found piles everywhere of stuff that should have been tosses immediately. Hmm.
And having washed all the dishes and put them away, along with changing the beds, and arranging the furniture where it will stay (for a while, I know us.) I am ready to implement that new work schedule I planned.
Breakfast, shower, dress, blog and make the bed by nine am. Then it's into my new pristine studio. Wow! The floors got installed and I haven't spent more than 15 minutes up there yet. It's clean bright and waiting for me. I have new canvases and fabric for quilts all ready and am full of ideas.
That'll help me get over missing Brooke.

  1. It is sobering to see the parents as they age. Mine will be 90 and 95 at their birthdays in Nov. and Dec. I feel like this time with them is giving me a preview of what can happen to me. I think it sounds like you got the same feeling. There is a nothing like a routine, and being fully conscious of your life each moment.
Have fun in the studio, and by the way, what kind of floor did you have installed?

  2. Inspire me, Mel. I know we are supposed to get the routine out of the way before we have fun... but what's the fun in that?

  4. The latest gurus claim it is healthier to leave a bed unmade to air out.... kills the bacteria who like warmth. You could save a few minutes. :-)
