Family Fotos
.
Brooke and me when she was around 16 and I was 18 years older. Our lives rarely connected in those days and we missed knowing so much of each other's lives. We brought a big box of old pictures home, and I am scanning and saving them to disc for all of us kids to share. It is a labor of love.
Our good ol' mom didn't tell Brooke, the youngest, much about her three siblings. We almost were a footnote in her previous life. Our good ol' dad was married to someone else and there was a new man in the house so the past was irrelevant, I suppose. But now Brooke and I are adults and have the luxury of sharing that past with each other. Some of it is good but most of it is pretty atrocious. But we are all survivors, aren't we? Now we are so grateful to be sisters, starting fresh and loving every minute.

  1. At first I thought that was Brooke's daughter - such a strong resemblance to that adorable kid with the beautiful smile.

How therapeutic for the two of you to create this new bond.

Beautiful photo of the two of you.
BTW, thanks for the "anti-Palin" button. I feel exactly the same way.

  3. I like these photos... it is like you are trying so hard to be contemplative and serious and you just can't.... the laughter shines through.
You are so lucky to have each other now... you probably appreciate each more.

  4. Hi Melody, I usually read your blog on a daily basis, but never comment. This time, I have to say, I thought it was your niece as well. Great fun bonding with a sibling! Have always loved your quilts and paintings.

  5. You both will color your own futures and YES we are all survivors and somehow that makes us stronger women for our daughters and grandmothers. Imagine Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart

  9. Before reading the words, I thought this was a picture of Brooke and her daughter! Wow, the similarity is amazing! You should have them take a picture in the same pose.
