The red lacquer teapot was found on my second teaching trip to Berkeley CA for the East Bay Heritage Quilt Guild. It was expensive, $25 for a pot that doesn't actually function for tea, but it was so red and shiny and appealing that I spent the money anyway. In the tiny recesses of my brain, I knew one day I would paint it.
White porcelain and red lacquer, smooth shining surfaces, loaded with reflective qualities...I was shaking in my boots. Could I do it? And could I do it with vigor?
Deep breath. Dive in.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful teapot!!! So colorful, so shiny, such a great shape (I would have bought it too!!). I love the size of this painting also. I don't know how much this opinion is worth, since I'm not an art expert - but I think you DO have it!

what I love about this painting is the composition. wonderful cropping great use of the vase and daisy. It looks so very well thought out and packs a visual punch!
