The Darling Buds of March
If you expect to have fruit from your orchard, you have to get out there and spray dormant oil on the buds before they open. We did that yesterday and not a minute too soon.
It was just a perfectly sunny day, with a tiny bit of wind and hundreds of motorcycles whizzing past us, and plenty of weeds to dig up and toss onto the compost pile.
The recent snowmelt and day long rains have left puddles in the orchard, and I was glad to have my new pink boots for protection.
I'll be honest. I am not so young anymore. I was totally wiped after about 2 hours. I pruned all the trees and Dave cleared the weeds from the base of six of them and we have more to do, of course. We dragged our butts back to the house, had a nice lunch and a nap.
Then we went back out and Surveyed the Bounty.
Surveying the bounty is what we call it when we sit on the porch and have a drink.
We congratulate ourselves on the job well done, how smart we were for getting out there early, for how lucky we are to have had previous owners who set this all out for our use, and for the rain, the precious rain we have had. May it continue all season.
Mel + Dave= True Love
It might as well be Spring.
March 2nd fruit tree buds, pink boots, G&Ts on the porch, twoo wuv, AND Rodgers & Hammerstein :).
ReplyDeleteI call that riches, I really do!
Enjoy!
This was a nice post. Made me all warm and fuzzy.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for spring too! I've never met you, but you just look so happy and content in that pic! Have a great day, Mel!
ReplyDeleteahhh...
ReplyDeleteYou are two of the richest people I know.
ReplyDeleteAnd I find your version of "surveying the bounty" to be my favorite way too. If I wasn't worried about it breaking I would send you one of the bottles of vodka with kafir lime in it that I have....
I can't wait until it's warm enough here to sit on the porch and survey the bounty.....
Oh, and my boots are yellow- blinding yellow.
Hugs,
teri
awwwww.....
ReplyDeleteNow that is a good picture of you! I feel like I am right there with you.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so nice to have someone to be with, work with and just enjoy? You can see twoo wove happening in your neck of the woods. Thanks for the post.
