Isn't She Lovely?

This little cupcake pincushion was sent to me by fellow blogger Judy Spencer of Soap Lake, Washington. She saw my pink and lime green bedroom pictures and knew I had to have this to complete the ensemble. I love love love it. And I love the connections that I have made with folks I have never met.

Another meeting happened today. I got an email from Susan Hart in England with this picture:

It's a picture of my quilt Croton #1 used as a stamp. Hmmm. I had no idea that anyone had used my quilt in this way. No permission was requested, not that I would say no. I sent no one a slide, and imagine that the image was just lifted off my website.

I wouldn't mind having an actual stamp made from my work. Of course now that 1st class is 41 cents, I guess it is not worth the trouble to have one.
Anyway...I finished quilting Bon Bon #4 today, and added a few bits of color here and there and decided on the orientation below.

Bon Bon #4
Hand dyed and commercial cottons, fused, machine quilted
34.5x35"

  1. Lovely stamp! Just a thought - did you have that quilt in a quilt show run by the American Quilter's Society? Because there may have been some sort of clause in the rules which gave them permission to use it for publicity... Just a possibility...

  2. No I didn't enter that quilt in any show with AQS. It isn't even one that would have fit their size requirements, so it wouldn't have been accepted if I had.

  3. That stamp looks like one of the ones you make yourself, nowdays you can use any picture and make an official stamp (for a fee). Looks like it was made at Zazzle.com. Was there a post card or something similar made from the image of your quilt?

  4. On USPS, any photo can be made into a stamp........

  5. Enough about the stamp, already! I love the quilt! I love the size and the shape and the orientation of the concentrated stripey box and I love the commercial fabrics you included, since I bought some of them for you.
And I love the pin cushion. How nice was that!?

  6. I love the quilt even more and would love to make a stamp, a flag, anything. It would be nice to have a whole collection of your quilts as stamps! It would make snail mail a whole lot prettier!

  7. Melody, I have only recently discovered your blog and web site and had to let you know how much I love your work! The colours and vibrancy of them all is just stunning. My favourite is 'Riverview' and I take a look at it every day!
    Keep up the good work,
    Karen

  8. OK one more thing on the stamp...notice the envelope? The envelope also has the quilt picture and Quilt City on it. That means it is from Paducah KY...further clues to the mystery.

  9. Wow Melody - I think you should call your self the Zucchini Quilt Woman - you're so prolific!! LOL

I hardly miss a day and love everything you do. I've been working with boxes of old timey fabrics given to me by a dear friend after the death of his mother.

I'm experimenting with Polly & Esther as my father used to say!! That cloth lasts forever - but I'm going to make a very cool rug - not a quilt!!

Keep up the good work - when you click your "stamp" image it says Paducah.jpg. Since I retired from the Post Office - I know they purchase rights for stamps - probably a homemade stamp!! Too bad we have all those machines - otherwise lots of folks would see your beautiful quilt as they sent your letter on the way!!

Hmm, this is changing the tone a little, but somebody did use your artwork without permission and without paying you the appropriate price for it. I think you should investigate and unless it is a one-off, then apart from the justified pride, you are entitled to a fee.

    Hi Mel,
Seeing your beautiful work used by someone hit me really wrong. Sent me on a little google search. Unfortunately it appears this could be a bigger issue than one quilt image. See this link...

I think I used...zazzle quilt stamps...as my search words. The link above shows another of your quilts used the same way. Appears there may be three if I'm reading it correctly.
Sure sorry but thought you should know.
    I LOVE YOUR NEW SERIES.
    Best to you,
